Sollebrunn
Accommodation in Sollebrunn
When planning a stay in Sollebrunn, local history and landscape offer concrete points of interest. Erska kyrka stands on a hill just outside the town; Erska Lunde and Tosseberget feature different types of scenery. There are also several trails on Tosseberget and the Stora Gräfsnäsrundan, which passes by the church. You can therefore consider whether historical sites, nature or a longer circular route should be the focus of your trip.
Church, Local History and Windmills
Erska kyrka is located near graves dating from the Iron Age and the Viking Age. It was built in 1885–1886 as a hexagonal central-plan church, based on designs by Emil Viktor Langlet. The church retains furnishings from its predecessor, including an old pulpit and baptismal font. This makes it a place where the architectural history of the present church building meets older furnishings.
Tingshuset also has a distinct historical connection to Erska: in the 1890s, it was moved to its present location on a rise south of Sollebrunn. For Erska kyrka, the construction period of the present building is an important point of reference; for Tingshuset, it is the move to its current location. These offer different aspects of local history: building history and the history of a site.
Mellbydalen, just north of Sollebrunn, is home to well-preserved 19th-century windmills. Several of the mills have been restored and can be watched turning. Check before your visit whether it is currently possible to see them in operation.
Rocky Landscapes and Trails
Erska Lunde is a wooded ridge of rock and boulders on the plain near Sollebrunn. It is also home to an Iron Age burial ground. Tosseberget offers a different landscape: it consists of distinctive, steep rocky ridges on the plain. Pine trees dominate; spruce is found mainly on the north side. Several trails cross the area. The two landscapes therefore have different features: Erska Lunde combines a wooded ridge with the burial ground, while Tosseberget is defined by its terrain, tree species and trails.
For a longer tour, try the Stora Gräfsnäsrundan, which passes by Erska kyrka. It is about 40 kilometres long and starts in either Gräfsnäs or Sollebrunn. The route alternates between cycle paths and quiet paved roads. Between Gräfsnäs and Loo, it follows a beautiful, firm, compacted gravel path. The approximate distance and the two possible starting points are useful for planning. As surfaces can change locally, it is advisable to check the route before setting off.
