Accommodation in Fagersta
Cultural history and nature trails shape the themes you can discover in Fagersta. Västanfors Hembygdsgård has several furnished museum houses, a wing of a manor house, a coffee house, and an old trading shop. You can stroll between the houses, through the manor park, and around the lock area. Locally produced edible goods and Swedish handicrafts are sold in the trading hall; Midsummer is celebrated on the grounds every year.
Cultural history and industrial traces
Västanfors kyrka also tells the story of different construction periods: the present church was inaugurated in 1830, replacing a wooden church dating from the 1640s. It is built on a north–south axis, with the tower and main entrance to the south. The Strömsholmskanal remains a navigable waterway for tourists and is now a listed historic structure. In Fagersta and its surroundings, church architecture, canal history, and earlier industrial heritage stand side by side, without being part of a single attraction.
Near Fagersta, well-preserved Iron Age bloomery furnaces can be seen in their original setting at Dunshammar. Trummelsberg preserves the remains of an ironworks, including slagstone pillars and the remains of harbour piers. Those interested in the history of ironworking will find two distinct sights here: the bloomery furnaces at Dunshammar and the structural remains at Trummelsberg.
Oljeön in Ängelsberg is another destination near Fagersta. Guided tours are offered there at set times from May to September. Plan your visit around these times and check them in advance.

The approximately 16-kilometre Landsbergstriangeln is a circular hiking route through the Landsberget and Trummelsberg areas. In Fagersta, the Bruksleden passes through Högbyn, the city's highest point at 241 metres above sea level, as well as Trummelsberg and Landsberget. At 217 metres, the latter is Fagersta's second-highest point.
Several clearly described options are available for shorter walks. Kolarbyrundan is 2.5 kilometres long, rated easy, and listed as taking 30 minutes to walk. Fageråsen has a lit trail that is also 2.5 kilometres long, about one kilometre from central Fagersta. Eskilnspåret is a 2.5-kilometre recreational and exercise trail at the turnoff towards Ludvika. In the Kottmosseskogen woodland near the residential area, marked trails cross varied terrain and have different difficulty levels. The four-kilometre Flobostigen near Semla is a nature and cultural trail in the Fagersta area.
Cyclists will also find a route through the town: the Linjan cycle route runs alongside the Strömsholmskanal for part of its course and passes through central Fagersta. The different trail details help you narrow down your choice by distance, walking time, lighting, or terrain, rather than treating all routes as the same kind of outing.
