The options vary by activity; for some, the season also matters.

Sámi cultural heritage in and around Malå

Koppsele, one of the oldest Sámi settlement sites in Malå Municipality, is located near Malå. A 2 km trail leads from the end of the road at Bölevallen to Koppsele. This connects a specific trail with a settlement site that has a cultural and historical connection to the municipality.

Malå hembygdsgård is a living cultural heritage site on the eastern edge of Malå. Nearby, Vildmarkscamp offers the opportunity to experience Sámi culture. If this is your focus, you can choose between a settlement site, living cultural heritage on the edge of town, and a cultural experience in the surrounding area.

Ski trails, hiking and dog sledding

Tjamstanbackarna has four lifts. Malå has cross-country ski trails for beginners as well as competitive skiers. Malå IF holds annual youth competitions and long-distance races in the varied terrain in and around Tjamstan. The trails and competitions offer different options for sports-focused trips. If you’re planning to travel for a race, check the event dates in advance.

Tjamstanberget is suitable for hiking during the summer season. Laplands Wild Paws runs dog-sledding tours in Malå and Björkås, where visitors can ride on a sled. Hiking and dog sledding are different types of activity. If you’re planning a tour for a specific date, check in advance whether a suitable experience is available.

Water and trails

In the Malå-Storforsen Nature Reserve, trails lead into the area from both sides of the river. The waters around Malå, including the Malån, lakes and waterways, are suitable for peaceful kayaking.
