When looking for a hotel in Fredrika, you can plan your stay around whether you want to focus on outdoor activities, local history or both. In the centre and surrounding area, there are illuminated trails, as well as historic buildings, the Buddharama temple site and several places to visit. Distances and trail lengths provide concrete points of reference for planning.

Illuminated trails and outdoor activities

In the centre of Fredrika, there are illuminated running and exercise trails measuring 2.5 and 5 kilometres. ElljusspĂĄret has four set distances; in winter, a cross-country ski trail is prepared along its 5-kilometre section. Maintenance may vary by season. The options therefore differ both in trail length and by time of year.

The illuminated Strandleden leads to the campsite and offers views of the lake and sunset. Viskaterrängen is an annual running competition and also a cross-country running trail. Shorter routes of 1 to 2.5 kilometres are available in the village and in the nearby forest. If you want to plan your trip around the competition, check the event details in advance; they may vary.

You can also take the type of route into account when planning: the running and exercise trails have set distances, while Strandleden offers views of the lake and sunset. Fredrika has hiking trails, ecoparks and nature reserves for leisure activities available year-round.

Church, temple and local history

Fredrika Church was completed in 1797 and inaugurated in 1810. The two dates mark different stages in its history. The church is also a well-preserved example of Neoclassical ecclesiastical wooden architecture. Its history is therefore linked to a clearly defined architectural style.

The grounds of the Buddharama temple in Fredrika feature a 4.5-metre-high statue of the monk Luang poo Thuad and a Buddha statue more than 8 metres high. There is also a stage, two smaller houses and two elephant statues. Comparing the sizes of the two main figures gives a concrete sense of their different dimensions, while the other structures also help define the character of the temple grounds.

Two historic houses also offer different insights. Långbäckenstugan was built in the 1850s and is now a museum with an old classroom upstairs. Lögdastugan hosts a summer café and an Advent market. If you want to combine a visit with these seasonal offerings, check the dates in advance.

The region’s history stretches back further: the Sami presence in the area around Fredrika has been documented for about 2,000 years. Another notable landmark is a bronze figure in Lake Skinnmuddselet, six kilometres west of Fredrika. Set in a rock, it is just over three metres high and richly branched; its shape resembles a reindeer antler.

Fredrika and the surrounding area

Fredrika lies between Åsele and Umeå on Route 92. Nearby is Ekopark Käringberget, a 16-minute drive away. The park has at least three hiking trails. This makes it possible to combine a stay in the village with a destination in the surrounding area, without confusing the park’s hiking trails with those in the centre.

For orientation in the village: Drottningparken is next to Servicehuset Duvan at Umevägen 7. A little over ten kilometres outside Fredrika are Baksjölidens skvaltkvarn and a planing mill. The mill dates back to the 1860s and is located by a nature reserve and an area with trapping pits. Alongside the trails and architecture, there are also technical and historical traces to explore in the surrounding area.
