Knivsta can be explored in a variety of ways: a section of the Upplandsleden trail leads towards Forsbyån, Valloxen has a centrally located bathing area, and the town centre offers walks focused on art and architecture. There are also natural areas, cycling opportunities and historic sites. When planning your stay, you can choose which of these to focus on according to your interests.

Trails, water and nature

Section 1:2 of the Upplandsleden begins at Knivsta C, on the eastern side of the railway line at Knivsta station, and ends at Forsbyån. Another section, 1:1, passes Branthammarsjön. There, you will find a shelter and a fire pit with a lovely view of the water. The two routes offer different starting points for a hike: section 1:2 is described by its start and end points, while section 1:1 passes the lake.

Särstabadet is a bathing area on Lake Valloxen, centrally located in Knivsta. Easily accessible natural areas with shores, woodland, and old meadows and grazing land are also close to the centre. These include Gredelby hagar and Trunsta träsk. The bird tower offers a fine view across the landscape, where you can observe the rich birdlife at Trunsta Träsk. A tree walk introduces 20 common Swedish tree species that grow in and around the communities of Knivsta and Alsike.

Cycling with a range of challenges

The MTB circuit in Knivsta offers around five kilometres of trail riding, with both easy and challenging sections. At Knivsta’s bike park, you can practise jumps and drops in a varied, fast-paced setting. The two facilities offer different focuses: the circuit emphasises distance and varying levels of difficulty, while the bike park is for practising jumps and drops.

Church, museum and architectural history

S:t Stefans kyrka, also known as Knivsta gamla kyrka, was consecrated in 1303. It is a Gothic hall church built of grey stone. Brick ornamentation can be found on the gables, around the windows and at the entrances. Those interested in architectural history can consider not only the church’s age, but also its materials and the placement of its decorations.

Sockenmagasinet, built in 1758, stands beside the old church in Knivsta. Today, it is the museum of the local heritage association. Its collection includes historic farming objects and other points of interest. A visit here adds another facet of local history to the story of the church.

Art and stories in Knivsta

Knivsta Centrum för idrott och kultur (CIK) has a performing arts venue with 398 seats, including six accessible seats. CIK also features four artistic installations and individual works from the Knivsta municipal art collection. Art enthusiasts will therefore find both permanent installations and works from the municipal collection here.

The mobile walking tour “Knivsta förr och nu” shares Knivsta local personality Lennart Runnding’s account of Knivsta in the past. “Konst och arkitektur i Knivsta” offers a different perspective: cultural strategist Jon Hulander guides you on a mobile walking tour through the town centre. Follow the map and click the link at each stop. While “Knivsta förr och nu” focuses on the story of Knivsta in the past, “Konst och arkitektur i Knivsta” turns its attention to art and architecture in the town centre.
