Brottby offers a range of options for planning a stay: cycling, a short loop by the water and sites of cultural history. If you are looking for a hotel in Brottby, you can first consider whether outdoor activity or history will be the focus of your trip. A mountain bike trail, the Brottbystigen and historic sites provide specific themes to explore. The routes differ in shape and length, while the buildings differ in their history, design and use.

Routes and trip planning

There is a mountain bike trail at Össeby IP in Brottby. The Brottbystigen is an approximately 1.1-kilometre triangular loop along the watercourse; it was inaugurated in March 2022. The route connects the existing cycle path along the old Norrtäljevägen with the grass track through the burial ground to Kvarnbacken, passing the historic site of Garns Bro. Its loop, approximate length and specifically named connections are useful points of reference when planning a visit.

Stage 3 of the Roslagsleden runs from Örsta to Lövhagen and is 16 kilometres long. Compared with the approximately 1.1-kilometre Brottbystigen, it is a significantly longer route. If you plan to walk this stage, check the latest route details before setting out. At the bridge in Brottby, the Roslagsleden crosses the Långhundraleden. In the Viking Age, the latter was a waterway between Uppsala and the Baltic Sea. The crossing provides a tangible point of comparison between a walking trail and a historic waterway. The loop and the stage are different types of route planning: one describes a closed circuit, while the other is a section with named endpoints.

Churches and architectural history

The Össeby church ruin near Brottby gård is the remnant of Vallentuna’s ninth medieval church and its ninth medieval parish. Today, the ruin is mainly used for summer services and weddings; event arrangements may vary. Össeby Church was probably consecrated in the late 14th century.

Ă–sseby-Garns Church is a Romanesque stone church dating from the 13th century. It has preserved its medieval ground plan and form, typical of rural churches in Uppland. The building is made of natural stone; the surrounds and decorative masonry in the eastern gable include brick. For those interested in architecture, the overall form and individual details offer different points of interest: the preserved ground plan describes the layout, while the brickwork shows specific architectural details.

A windmill has been preserved in Brottby at its original location. According to a local report dated 25 June 2026, Klockarborg consists of two 19th-century houses on Garnsviken in Brottby. The Vallentuna school museum is located in the former Ă–sseby-Garn school building; the building was used as a school from 1887 to 1965.
