Brantevik consists of the two historic fishing villages of Norra Brantevik and Södra Brantevik. Maritime history, geological traces, and opportunities for walking, cycling, and sailing give the area a range of travel connections. Depending on whether you are interested in history, trails, or nature, you can choose a different focus.

Two Fishing Villages and Maritime History

A Dutch windmill dating from 1886 stands in the western part of Brantevik. The Sjöassuransföreningen Hoppet offers another way to learn about the area's history: the insurance association for ships from Brantevik was founded in 1871. The Hoppet Foundation, Stiftelsen Hoppet, continues to operate a maritime museum. The windmill, association, and museum each reflect a different aspect of the area's history.

Geological Traces and Swimming Spot

Near Brantevik, ripple marks in the rock bear witness to wave action on an ancient seabed. Trace fossils of the species Psammichnites gigas are displayed at the harbour. They were found in Lower Cambrian sandstone and are approximately 540 million years old. These two geological features add a much older landscape history to the area's maritime past.

Vejakåsen is Brantevik's swimming spot. If you include swimming in your travel plans, bear in mind that local swimming conditions can vary. More than 120 bird species have also been observed in the area around Brantevik. If you are interested in birds, you can consider these observations as another nature-related aspect of the destination.

Walking and Cycling

The Signaturled Österlen includes a 13-kilometre day-hike stage to the fishing harbour of Brantevik. The Grönet walking area lies south of the village. From there, you can walk through nature to Gislövshammar; the distance is approximately four kilometres. These details offer two different scales for planning a walk: a day-hike stage to the harbour and a shorter route of approximately four kilometres. Check current trail conditions before setting out.

The Sydkustleden passes through Brantevik. As routes can change, it is worth checking the current route before setting off. There are also paved cycling paths from Brantevik to Simrishamn and Skillinge. Conditions on these paths can change too, so include a current check in your plans. The two cycling paths each connect Brantevik with one of the places mentioned, while the Sydkustleden runs through the village.

Sailing and Connections

The Jakten Hoppet usually departs from Brantevik; it can also depart from other ports on the east and south coasts. Trips are open to everyone, regardless of sailing experience. Sailing dates and availability are seasonal. If a trip might be an option during your stay, check dates and availability when planning.

Route 321 connects Simrishamn and Skillinge via Brantevik. For specific departures, check the operator's latest information. Together with the cycling paths described above, this provides an overview of different connections: a bus route between the two places via Brantevik, and paved cycling paths from Brantevik to Simrishamn and Skillinge.
