Ödeshög is located on the eastern shore of Lake Vättern, in the heart of Östergötland. Useful landmarks include direct access to the E4 and four InfoPoints in the town. The area offers everything from a medieval church and the local heritage farm to fishing opportunities at Visjön and an award-winning section of the Östgötaleden trail. There is also a seasonal artificial-snow trail at Skönatorpet. If you are looking for a hotel in Ödeshög, these different themes can help you tailor your stay to your own plans.

Getting to Ödeshög and finding your way around

Ödeshög is located right by the E4. From exit 106, it takes just a few minutes to reach the central parts of town from the motorway. This is a useful landmark when arriving by car. For information during your stay, there are four InfoPoints in Ödeshög where you can get materials and information.

Church, heritage farm and artwork

Ödeshög Church is centrally located in town and originally dates back to the 12th century. The choir and eastern tower remain from the medieval building. The church is also one of the county’s three surviving Romanesque churches with eastern towers. Its origins and specific surviving architectural features are therefore central to understanding the town’s history.

Ödeshög’s local heritage farm is at the southern end of Ödeshög Klockaregårdsäng Park. There are 17 old buildings here, which have been relocated over the years. The church and the heritage farm offer different perspectives: one features surviving medieval parts of a church building, while the other brings together several old buildings in one place. Another landmark in the town centre is the striking artwork “Upp i luften”, which stands in the middle of an intersection.

Fishing and activities

Visjön is just outside the centre of Ödeshög. You can fish there for perch, pike and roach. For fishing trips, two non-motorised rowboats are available to rent for half a day or a full day. If you are planning a boat trip, check the boats’ availability in advance.

The Klockargårdsängen activity area has play equipment, a barbecue area, a boules court and a skatepark. These offer different options from those at Visjön: there, the focus is on fishing and boat rentals with a choice of duration; at Klockargårdsängen, several different facilities are available. You can choose between these options based on the type of activity you would like to include in your plans.

Hiking and a seasonal winter activity

A section of the Östgötaleden trail between Ödeshög, Omberg and Vadstena has been designated the Omberg Signature Trail by STF. The designation applies to this section of the Östgötaleden. This gives you a specific trail section to include in your hiking plans, without implying that the designation applies to the entire Östgötaleden.

At Skönatorpet, there is an approximately 2 km artificial-snow trail in the winter season, open to everyone. Unlike the hiking information, this offer is explicitly seasonal and has an approximate length. The two options are therefore easy to distinguish: the Östgötaleden section has a designation, while the ski trail is defined by its seasonal use and stated length.
