Borgholm: Castle, Nature and Culture
Accommodation in Borgholm
Borgholm Castle, Borga hage and the Victoriakonserten offer different perspectives on Borgholm. These places and the annual occasion show how travel planning can be divided between nature, cultural history and a fixed date.
Castle and views across the Kalmar Strait
Borgholm Castle has stood on a rocky promontory overlooking the Kalmar Strait for 900 years. Its long history and exposed location go hand in hand: the castle can be viewed both as a historic site and in terms of its setting in the landscape. If you are interested in architectural and cultural history, it is a striking starting point for putting Borgholm’s other historical sites into context.
Borga hage: forest, meadows and sea
The Borga hage nature reserve is also known as Slottsskogen. There, you can walk through lush broadleaf forest, along flowering meadows and by the sea. In addition to these varied landscape features, the diversity of species also defines the area’s character: more than 100 rare species have been recorded in Borga hage. From Borgholm, the nature reserve can be reached from the north via Strandvägen.
In Borga hage, you can also use a trail of about 1.5 kilometres for walking, running and cycling, starting at Borgholm’s sports ground. Its approximate length and the activities listed give you a concrete reference point for planning; trail conditions may change seasonally. Check them before setting out. This lets you distinguish between a walk through the landscapes described and using the trail for various activities, without treating the two options as the same.
Church, chapel traces and museum
Borgholm Church was inaugurated in 1879 in the Neo-Romanesque style. Traces of S:t Elavi Chapel have also been preserved in the old section of Borgholm cemetery. They are visible as a slightly raised rectangular area. This means that a church building with a specified architectural style and a chapel trace visible in the landscape represent two different forms of historical heritage.
Borgholm Town Museum is located on an estate with roots in the early 19th century. This historical connection adds another cultural-history site to the architectural history of the church and the visible traces in the cemetery. If you plan your stay around your interests, you can consider these sites alongside the castle as distinct themes within Borgholm.
Victoriakonserten and 14 July
The Victoriakonserten is an annual tribute to H.R.H. Crown Princess Victoria on her birthday, 14 July. The celebration at Borgholm Castle includes performances by renowned artists, the presentation of the Victoriapriset and a fundraising drive for Crown Princess Victoria’s Fund. The celebration also includes the royal procession from Solliden through the centre of Borgholm to Borgholm Castle. Music, the award ceremony, the fundraising purpose and the procession are distinct elements that make the occasion more than a concert.
For 2026, Solliden Palace Park was scheduled to be open daily from 7 May to 27 September. If you are planning a visit at another time, check the dates in effect then. If you want to combine your trip with the Victoriakonserten, plan around the annual tribute date, 14 July, and check the dates for the relevant year.
Plan your stay around your interests
Borga hage offers the landscape and trail setting described here, while the castle, church, cemetery and museum have different cultural-history highlights. The Victoriakonserten, meanwhile, is tied to an annual occasion on a fixed birthday date. These differences can help you decide what you would like to focus on during your trip to Borgholm.
