Hok – Hiking, Cycling and Nature
Accommodation in Hok
Hok offers a variety of highlights for a stay: hiking, cycling and golf, as well as nature along the Hokaån and around Lake Hokasjön. The routes vary in length, course and landmarks. When planning your activities, it is therefore worth distinguishing carefully between the individual trails and the information about them.
Hiking on several named trails
The Höglandsleden runs through Vaggeryd Municipality, passing Hooks Herrgård in Hok and continuing eastwards via Långserum. The access point to the HÖ20 stage of this trail is also located at Hooks Herrgård. From there, the route leads towards Byarum or Tomtabacken.
Between Nydala and Byarum, the Munkaleden is a 40-kilometre meditation walk along a well-signposted trail. The Munkagårdsleden starts at Munkehatt and runs via Svenarum and Hok, as well as along the Höglandsleden to Byarum Church. The named trails offer different locations and directions for planning your walks; the specific distance of 40 kilometres applies to the Munkaleden.
The connection to the railway station may also be relevant for hikers: an unmarked detour of 1.6 kilometres each way connects the main hiking trail with Hok railway station. Train and bus connections are available there. When planning, bear in mind that this detour is unmarked.
Gravel routes of varying lengths
The 32-kilometre Sjöarundan gravel route starts at the entrance to Hooks Herrgård and heads towards Lakes Fängen and Sandsjön. It passes through Ödestugu on the way back towards Hok, then descends to Lake Hokasjön and Hooks Herrgård. The route thus includes several notable landmarks before returning to Lake Hokasjön.
There are also two gravel loops, measuring 16 and 20 kilometres respectively. Both pass through the Lyngemadssjön nature reserve and return to Hook. The routes differ in specific ways: the loops are shorter and include the nature reserve, while the Sjöarundan is listed as 32 kilometres and passes via Fängen, Sandsjön and Ödestugu.
Golf and spa by Lake Hokasjön
Hooks Golfklubb offers two 18-hole courses with distinct characteristics. One runs through partly dense woodland and has a fairytale atmosphere. The golf academy offers activities for all ages, led by experienced PGA club professionals. Guests and members can take part.
Hooks Herrgård’s spa features hot and cold springs, experience showers and treatment rooms overlooking Lake Hokasjön. Golf, the woodland setting and the spa each offer their own highlights when planning a stay in Hok.
River, landscape and history
The Hokaån flows through Hok. Its fairytale-like riverside promenade offers nature experiences and peaceful views. Another specific landmark is Skomakarens kammare: it is located where the Hästgångsån flows into Lake Lyngemadssjön, northeast of Hooks Herrgård. This allows riverbanks, lakes and named landscape features to be included in travel plans as distinct nature-related themes.
Hok also has a place in history: in the mid-14th century, it was the manor estate of the nobleman Herger Joarsson.
Getting to Hok
Krösatågen trains on the Halmstad–Nässjö route stop in Hok. Since train connections and timetables can change, check the times before travelling. Together with the train and bus connections at the railway station, this makes Hok a destination where the link between the hiking trail and the station may also be an important part of planning.
