In Månsarp, you’ll encounter two distinctive aspects of the area’s history: church building and traces of ironworking. There’s also the trail along the Tabergsån, the nature around nearby Taberg, and special places to visit around Månsarps kyrka. You can shape your stay around historical interests, nature and time outdoors.

Church building and historical traces

Månsarps kyrka was built in 1853–54. Before that, a wooden church dating from 1714 stood on the site; it had in turn replaced a medieval wooden church. The exterior of today’s church has remained unchanged. Its unusual cast-iron spire is particularly striking: five teams of foundry workers from local businesses made and donated it. This detail brings to life the connection between church building and Månsarp’s long history of ironworking.

Månsarps ödekyrkogård preserves the remains of a church and cemetery with medieval origins. The old church, dating from the 18th century, was demolished after the new church was built in 1853. Today’s Månsarps kyrka and the old churchyard thus represent different periods in the area’s church history. The final footpath to the churchyard is partly worn. Parking is available at Månsarps kyrka, about 350 metres northeast of the churchyard; check local path conditions before your visit.

Ironworking and trails by the water

Månsarps södra masugn is located at the northern end of Vederydssjön, in the Tabergsån area. The lower part of the blast furnace, dams and slag heaps remain from the former ironworking complex; stone-arch bridges are also among the site’s relics. The ruins and associated structures give tangible form to Månsarp’s long history of ironworking.

The Tabergs-å-leden offers a different perspective on early industry. The trail follows the Tabergsån through green, varied terrain. Babbling water, winding paths and the remains of early industry shape its character. At the start of the trail, there is a lovely view of Månsarpasjön; a rest area lies on the trail along the lake’s northern shore. Here, history, landscape and a stop by the water can be experienced as different aspects of the same trail.

Biparadis in Månsarp also focuses on special habitats. It includes an open sandy habitat that is maintained repeatedly to support sand lizards. The rare spider wasp blyvägstekeln also occurs in Månsarp; its presence indicates high nature values in sandy habitats. The nature themes therefore range from maintaining an open sandy habitat to the diversity of species associated with such environments.

Visiting and getting around locally

You can enter Månsarps kyrka if visitor conditions allow; check current visiting arrangements in advance. You can take a church brochure from the information rack. Next to the church, Pärlängen’s Utekyrka is used during the summer half of the year. Pärlängen’s barbecue area and boules court can be booked, provided the parish does not need the facilities for its own activities. Check whether they’re available for your preferred date.
