Ingatorp: Churches, Museums and Trails
Accommodation in Ingatorp
Ingatorp is located on National Road 40. As a destination, the town offers a range of points of interest: historic wooden and church architecture, an agriculture and motor museum, and trails and outdoor activities. The differences below can help you plan your stay around your own interests.
Church and Architectural History
Tiondeboden is a small timber-framed wooden house and the oldest wooden house in Sweden. It has remained unchanged since it was built. For information about visiting, contact Södra Vedbo pastorat. Ingatorp Church is one of Sweden’s outstanding examples of the Nordic Art Nouveau style that prevailed at the time. After a fire caused by a lightning strike, it was reconsecrated in 1914. A triumphal cross from the 15th century, which comes from an earlier church on the site, hangs in the chancel arch. There is also a small church museum at the parish hall. The two historic buildings offer different points of interest: Tiondeboden highlights timber construction and preservation, while the church features Art Nouveau, its reconsecration and the 15th-century cross.
Agriculture and Local Heritage
Lantbruksmuseet Ingatorp, also known as Lantbruks- och motormuseet, displays machinery used by farmers in Småland before the advent of the tractor. The museum also has stone-crushing machines and a unique collection of hot-bulb engines. The agricultural machinery from the pre-tractor era and the hot-bulb engine collection give the technical exhibits different points of focus. The museum is open by prior arrangement, so please arrange your visit before travelling. Hembygdspark is open at all times, but its buildings and collections can be accessed when the local heritage association holds announced activities. To arrange access outside these activities, contact the association.
Trails and Outdoor Activities
There are several different ways to enjoy the outdoors. The Motionsslinga around Ingatorpssjön is a lit fitness and walking trail about 1.8 kilometres long. There are many benches along the Runt Ingatorpasjön route. The local heritage association organises village and croft walks. The HÖ2 section of the Höglandsleden ends at Valbacken in Ingatorp, after passing Stuverydsbäcken, also known as Skrôle Hie. Each description highlights something different: the Motionsslinga is described by its lighting and approximate length, while Runt Ingatorpasjön is noted for its benches; for HÖ2, the route and endpoint are relevant. There is a barbecue area at Ingatorp bathing place, maintained by a bathing-place association.
The 2026 Summer Market
The traditional Ingatorp Sommarmarknad took place on Saturday, 4 July 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Torget and along Esplanaden.
