When looking for a hotel in Aneby, you can plan your trip around three interests: trails, nature and birdwatching, and cultural history. The destinations and routes are located at different geographical levels—from the town area and its surroundings to the municipality and the wider region.

Trails and Tours in Aneby

Målsånnaleden is about 16 kilometres long. In the centre, it follows walking and cycling paths, then mainly forest roads and larger trails. Anebyleden is part of Smålandsleden and runs for about 78 kilometres through the entire municipality of Aneby. The Ralången runt cycling tour covers about 25 kilometres and offers a variety of nature and cultural experiences. When comparing the routes, both their length and type of path are worth considering: the surfaces are specified for Målsånnaleden, Anebyleden runs through the municipality, and Ralången runt is a cycling tour.

Svartåleden follows the banks of the Svartån through built-up areas and green spaces. The route offers insights into local history and natural habitats. It therefore combines views of the surroundings with two themes: history and nature.

Aneby has a train connection via Aneby Resecentrum. A connecting path leads from there to Anebyleden. If you are considering travelling by train, check the timetable for your travel date.

Lakes and Birdwatching

Anebysjön is in the vicinity of Aneby; walking paths connect the lake with the town. There is a birdwatching tower in the northeastern part. The lake also has a floating jetty and a shelter with a barbecue area. This brings together lakeside paths, birdwatching and the facilities mentioned at the lake.

Bredestadsdalen lies on the eastern edge of Aneby’s town area. From the observation platform there, you can see reed beds and the southern tributary of Lake Ralången. Further east, in the wider region around Aneby, lies the Hyllingen nature reserve. The lake is important for birds that stop to rest and for nesting birds. The observation sites mentioned thus range from the edge of the town to the wider region.

Nature Conservation, Exercise and a Waterfall

Furulid Nature Reserve lies immediately southeast of Aneby’s town area and covers 94 hectares. It has a lit running trail with exercise stations. There are also exercise trails in central Aneby and in Frinnaryd; when winter conditions are suitable, ski trails are prepared there as well. This caveat is important for winter planning: ski trails are prepared only when conditions are suitable.

Stalpet is a 20-metre-high waterfall and the highest waterfall in southern Sweden. Stalpets Café och Hantverk is next to the waterfall. In the garden, you can have coffee with a view of the waterfall and buy local handicrafts. A staircase leads down on both sides of the waterfall.

Cultural History in the Municipality

Åsens by, Sweden’s first cultural reserve, is located in the municipality of Aneby. It was established in March 2000 and today comprises three farms with well-preserved buildings typical of the 19th century. The farms and their buildings give the cultural theme a tangible architectural focus.

Aneby kyrka also offers a distinctive architectural feature: the new church space was inaugurated in 1997 and has an octagonal shape. The church offers a digital tour for a glimpse of its interior.
