If you’re planning a stay in Bjursås, you can choose activities at very different scales: a nature trail through a forest, hikes covering several kilometres, cross-country skiing and cycling, as well as historic sites and events. Seasonal options such as swimming in summer are also available. Route length, landscape and seasonal conditions provide different points of reference for planning.

Hiking Trails and Landscape

Different habitats meet in Bjursås prästskog: old spruce and pine forest, deciduous and swamp forest, a natural stream environment, a hay meadow and pastureland. The 900-metre Sandbäcksstigen trail runs through the area; five information boards introduce various sites and the forest’s natural environment. Marked trails, a rest area with a shelter, a barbecue area with firewood and a dry toilet add to the facilities. Maintenance and weather can affect the facilities; check their condition before your visit.

There are two more hiking destinations at Dössberget. The approximately three-kilometre Dössbergsleden leads from Bäverhyddans Värdshus to Dössbergets hembygdsgård; the distance is one way. The 6.5-kilometre Bäverleden runs around Bjursberget. At Hanses Hällar there is a viewpoint, a barbecue area and a shelter. Trail conditions and facilities along Bäverleden may vary.

For a longer hike, the 35-kilometre Vildmarksleden Bjursås starts at the illuminated running track above Dössberget in Bjursås. The route runs mainly through forest, as well as through villages and summer farm settlements, and past viewpoints. Flymyrskasernen, a charcoal burner’s hut where overnight stays are possible, lies along the trail. It has a fire pit and twelve sleeping places; check the facilities on site before setting out. Trail conditions may vary depending on the season and weather.

Cross-Country Skiing, Cycling and Outdoor Activities

There are about 60 kilometres of cross-country ski trails in Bjursås and Sörskog, with no trail fee. Trail availability and grooming depend on the season and snow conditions; check conditions before your trip. If you’d rather cycle, Bjursås has signposted Biking Dalarna routes. They start at the campground and vary in length and terrain. Route status and conditions may change.

The forests and mountains in Bjursås socken also offer varied terrain for mountain biking at different skill levels. Fishing is possible in Bjursås all year round; local conditions and permits may vary. You can swim in Lake Bjursen in summer, though seasonal conditions may also change.

Culture, Events and Local Highlights

Bjursås kyrka was built between 1793 and 1803. Its altarpiece dates from 1742. Dössbergets hembygdsgård displays furniture and furnishings from the 17th to the 19th century. Various events take place on Dössberget throughout the year, including performances by artists, markets, classic car evenings, children’s theatre and amateur plays. Since dates and programmes may change, it’s worth checking the latest event information before your trip.

Another local treat is the ice cream from Glassfabriken på Dössberget. It is served on Dössberget and also sold at Handelsbod Björsgården; you can try it in summer. Enjoy the view from Ärtknubben. Nature trails, cultural history and seasonal activities offer different ways to get to know Bjursås during your stay.
