Discover Sölvesborg through two distinct themes: the preserved medieval street network around Stortorget and the nature of Sölvesborgsviken. The Sölvesborgsviken nature reserve is accessible via Sölvesborg Bridge and is an important place for outdoor recreation. This gives you a choice of two separate focuses for your stay: town history and observing the landscape.

Sölvesborg Bridge and the bay

Sölvesborg Bridge is a 760-metre footbridge and cycle bridge across Sölvesborgsviken. It connects the town centre more closely with the Listerlandet peninsula. You can walk or cycle across the bridge, observe birds and the landscape, fish or have a coffee.

The bay is important for overwintering waterbirds as well as wetland and reed-dwelling birds that nest there. If you are interested in observing nature, you will find both a habitat for birds in winter and one for birds that nest in the wetlands and reeds.

Medieval traces and architectural history

The medieval street network around Stortorget has been preserved. St Nicholas Church is Sölvesborg’s only surviving medieval building. Traces of the Carmelite monastery founded in 1486 are visible north of the church. The ruins of Sölvesborg Castle also date back to the 13th century. Sölvesborg Castle was the largest and most important medieval fortification in eastern Denmark.

A different period of construction is represented by Listers Härads Tingshus: Gunnar Asplund designed the building, which was built between 1917 and 1921 in the Nordic Classicism style. It is a listed building. It is open to visitors in summer; guided tours can be booked outside the summer season. If you are planning a visit, check the seasonal opening arrangements before your trip. The Tingshus houses the Borre Museum, which displays works by Bror “Borre” Carlström, a woodcarver, satirical cartoonist and local character.

Art, trees and trails

A digital art tour takes you through Sölvesborg’s public art and architecture. For the tree walk in the centre, use a digital map that guides you to unusual trees. Elskåpskonst is Sölvesborg’s first walk-through street art exhibition. These activities offer different focuses: public art and architecture, distinctive trees or street art.

There are various options for longer routes. The Sölvesborg Trail is about 8 kilometres long and passes several attractions. In the western part of the municipality, it links several nature reserves and recreation areas. The Cykelled Listerlandet cycle route also starts in the town of Sölvesborg and passes several recreation areas and nature reserves; it is about 45 kilometres long. The approximate route lengths provide a guide for planning a walk or cycle ride, but not for estimating how long it will take.

Getting there and planning your trip

If you arrive by train, Sölvesborg station provides direct access to the town centre. Bus route 2 connects the station with Hörvik, Krokås, Nogersund and Hällevik.
