For planning your trip, Ringamåla Church, the Ire Nature Reserve, and Ringamåladagen offer different points of interest. The church highlights history and distinctive features; in Ire, preserved farmsteads and traces of earlier agriculture shape the cultural landscape. A combined hiking and study trail, fishing opportunities at Öjasjön, and a suggested cycling route add to the options. This allows you to balance culture, nature, and activities according to your own priorities.

History and Features of Ringamåla Church

Ringamåla Church was needed after the parish of Ringamåla became an independent parish on March 27, 1872. The church has a pneumatic Zetterquist organ dating from 1907, of a type of which there are only a few in Sweden. Gustav Vasa’s Bible, dating from 1541, is also housed in the church. These details connect the history of the parish with two specific features from different centuries.

Cultural Landscape and Farmsteads in Ire

The Ire Nature Reserve is located in the eastern part of Ringamålabygden. Its traditional small-scale farming landscape can be recognized by clearance cairns, stone walls, and trees pollarded over generations. These features are considered evidence of earlier agriculture and form part of the cultural heritage. Håkansgården is one of two farmsteads preserved in the area and has been restored to an earlier condition. In summer, the meadows in the nature reserve are in full bloom. Alongside the traces of earlier agriculture in the landscape, Håkansgården, as a restored farmstead, represents the architectural side of the cultural landscape.

Hiking Trail, Cycling Loop, and Getting There

A combined study and hiking trail in the Ire Nature Reserve is 5 km long. For a longer route, there is the 24 km Svängsta–Ringamåla loop. The two distances give you an idea of different activity levels: 5 km on the study and hiking trail compared with 24 km on the suggested cycling route.

Bus route 362 from Karlshamn stops at Dannemark Ringamålavägen, just under 2 km south of the Ire Nature Reserve. If you plan to travel by bus, check the timetable before setting out.

Fishing at Öjasjön

Öjasjön lies west of Ringamåla and offers opportunities for fishing. The lake thus complements the cultural landscape and hiking trail in Ire with a different activity. Facilities and conditions at the site may change; check before your visit.

The Annual Ringamåladagen

Ringamåladagen takes place every year. Local businesses and associations host open days, tours, sales, and other activities; private individuals also open their doors. Craftspeople are present, and flea markets and exhibitions are also part of the event. The program may vary from year to year. Check dates and current program details if you would like to plan your trip around Ringamåladagen.
