Mislata: Art, History and Green Spaces
Accommodation in Mislata
Mislata offers a range of options to consider when planning a trip: paths and green spaces, art venues, historic buildings and recurring cultural events. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, it helps to distinguish between the themes that interest you most. Some destinations are easier to locate with specific directions or addresses; for seasonal offerings and events, it is worth checking the latest information.
Green Spaces and Recreation at La Canaleta
Parque de La Canaleta can be explored along the Ruta botánica de La Canaleta. The botanical trail is 1 km long and runs through the central area of the park. It is accessible through the park’s three main entrances; as access rules may change, check them before your visit. Explanatory signs with QR codes introduce features of 21 tree species and 23 shrub species. The trail combines a manageable distance with specific information about the park’s plant life. The park also has a picnic area with paella grills.
Parc Infantil de Trànsit La Canaleta is designed as an educational and recreational area for schools, families and leisure use. Its facilities include bicycle and go-kart tracks with traffic lights and road signs. La Canaleta sports complex offers, among other facilities, tennis, frontón, padel and futsal courts, a skateboarding area, athletics facilities and artificial-turf football pitches. The complex also has an outdoor summer swimming pool. As individual facilities and access rules may vary, and the pool is seasonal, check the latest information if you are planning a specific visit.
Near Pou del Quint is a 10,000 m² public green and recreation area. It was created in 2021 near the protected surroundings of Pou del Quint and the municipal gardens. The green space has fully accessible paths, picnic tables and an agility park for pets. Facilities may change; if you want to use a particular area, check the conditions on site in advance.
Art and Miquel Navarro’s Studio
The Casa-Taller of the Fundació Miquel Navarro is a museum and a multipurpose building complex in the Morería district of Mislata’s historic centre. The museum is located in the historic studio where Miquel Navarro worked for more than 40 years. The Casa-Taller includes more than 400 works donated by the artist. The permanent exhibition includes sculptures, photographs, paintings, specialist publications and medium-sized works. The site brings together the artist’s former studio and a varied presentation of his artistic work.
The Casa-Taller is also designed to host temporary exhibitions and a range of events that bring education, culture and art together. The Biennal de Mislata Miquel Navarro continues a separate strand focused on contemporary art: it builds on the Vila de Mislata sculpture and painting biennials, which ran from 1985 to 2008. The biennial was first held in 2016 and supports visual art projects by emerging artists from different regions. Exhibition themes and dates vary with each edition.
Mislata Art al Carrer, or MAC, also brings the performing arts to the city streets. The recurring festival was founded more than ten years ago. Venues and programmes vary with each edition, as do the dates; check the latest programme if you would like to plan your trip around it.
Historic Sites and Local Traditions
Historic landmarks include Iglesia de la Virgen de los Ángeles, Mislata’s oldest church, dating from the 18th century, and La Cruz del término, dating from the 15th century. The cross marks the boundary between Valencia and Mislata. Convent de la Mare de Deu al Peu de la Creu dates from the mid-20th century. Its contemporary design and single-nave layout give it a different architectural profile from the older church.
The Fiestas Patronales y Populares de Mislata are organised by the city’s two Clavarías in honour of the Virgen de los Ángeles and the Santísimo Cristo de la Fe. Festivities include Moros y Cristianos, large paellas, fireworks and processions; the programme varies from year to year. The recurring Mislata Art al Carrer event is distinct from these festivities: it is dedicated to the performing arts in public spaces.
The wider l’Horta is also part of the culinary picture. Paella, arrós amb fesols i naps, arròs a banda and arròs negre are among the traditions of its communities. In the region known for Xufa, you will also find classic Valencian Orxata and Fartons. This regional perspective complements visits to art and historic sites without presenting the dishes as exclusive to Mislata.
