Pozo Estrecho combines flat terrain with a cultural history reflected in its architecture, music and festivals. Both travel alternatives and the seasons in which events take place are relevant to planning your trip.

Getting There and Landscape

Pozo Estrecho can be reached from Cartagena via a local road through La Palma; from Murcia, access is via the N-301. The two details refer to different starting points, so you can plan the appropriate route from your location. Check current road conditions before setting off. The terrain is flat; average elevations range between 45 and 60 metres. To the north, the Rambla del Albujón also forms the municipal boundary with Torre Pacheco.

January Festival Traditions

Pozo Estrecho’s patron saint festivals have been celebrated around 16 January since 1699. The festivities include sampling traditional Pelotas Galileas. The parish of San Fulgencio was also founded in January 1699. The parish and festival tradition thus share a historical year, but represent different aspects of local life: a religious foundation on the one hand and a recurring celebration featuring traditional food on the other. Visitors from various parts of the Region of Murcia attended the celebration on 17 January 2026. The exact festival dates and programmes may vary from year to year; check the current dates before your trip.

Architectural History

Villa Carmen, also known as Torre Valeriola, was built around 1906 near Pozo Estrecho railway station. Its main entrance features a canopy with wrought-iron elements in the modernist style. The mansion and chapel at Torre Nueva were designed in 1904 by master builder Pedro Bernabé. The main building features classical elements, the entrance hall has lobed arches, and the church has an Islamising character. The two buildings offer different architectural accents: Villa Carmen is distinguished by an entrance feature, while Torre Nueva brings together several building sections with their own stylistic characteristics.

Music and Theatre

Pozo Estrecho’s theatre tradition dates back to the 18th century. The Auto de los Reyes Magos, also known locally as Los Pastores, is traditionally performed in Pozo Estrecho; this tradition continues today. Check the current programme for specific performance dates.

The Sociedad Artístico Musical Santa Cecilia was founded in 1893 and institutionalised Pozo Estrecho’s musical tradition. Every May, the Banda Santa Cecilia performs selected pasodobles at the “Villa de Pozo Estrecho” composition competition, held at the same time as the Fiestas del Campo, Vino, Música y Flores. The band takes part in Cartagena’s Semana Santa every year, having been invited by various brotherhood groups.

Planning Around Cultural Events

There are different events to help you plan your visit: the patron saint festivals take place around 16 January, and the composition competition is held in May. The band’s participation in Cartagena’s Semana Santa is part of another event calendar. If you plan your trip around a festival or performance, check the current dates and programmes in advance.
