Discover Ibi: Museums, Festivals and Nature
Accommodation in Ibi
Ibi brings together toy-making history, festivals and natural sites. If you are choosing a destination for culture and scenery, you will find a range of highlights here: museums focus on toys, festivals and nature conservation, while Torretes and the Barranc dels Molins offer their own natural attractions. The history of paper and tin toy production is also part of the town’s story.
Museums and History
The Museo de la Fiesta is housed in the stately home of the Pérez-Caballero family, known as “La Casa Gran”. Festival culture and a specific historic site come together in this building.
The Museo Valenciano del Juguete preserves, researches and presents the heritage of toys. It is housed in the historic buildings of the former Payá Hermanos, S.A. factory. This connects the museum’s subject with a former factory site and Ibi’s industrial history.
The MolĂ de Paper paper mill began operating in 1860; its intensive activity ended in 1920. During this development, tin toy production displaced paper production in Ibi. The exterior of the mill can be viewed; check the visiting arrangements before your trip.
Another trace of the past is a hermitage built on the ruins of the 10th-century “Castell Vermell” castle.
The Museo Arcade Vintage is Spain’s first interactive video game museum. It has 300 arcade machines and bowling lanes. Check current visiting options before your trip if you are planning to visit.
Nature and Sightseeing
The EstaciĂłn BiolĂłgica de Torretes covers 53 hectares, is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, and is an example of Mediterranean landscape. Both guided and self-guided visits are available, so you can choose between a accompanied and an independent visit.
Annual educational activities include insect observation, mycology days and the Fireta de l’Herberet. The annual programme may change; check the dates for the current edition if any of these activities are important to your plans.
The Museo de la Biodiversidad is an exhibition and educational venue that aims to highlight the importance of nature conservation. This places the protection of the landscape alongside the landscape itself.
The Barranc dels Molins lies in the north of the municipality of Ibi. This natural area includes forests, mountains and a spring. The developed recreation area has barbecues, tables and benches. If you want to use the barbecues, check local restrictions beforehand.
One of the sights along the PR-V127 “Camà dels Geladors” is the Font Roja Natural Park. This adds a connection to a protected landscape to the nature highlights.
Festivals and When to Visit
The winter festivals Enfarinats, Tapats and Danzas were recognised as festivals of autonomous tourist interest in 2009. Every year on 28 December, Els Enfarinats stages a battle with flour, eggs and gunpowder after a one-day takeover of local power. If you are planning a trip for this festival, check the current programme as well.
Ibi is known as “La Cuna del helado” (the birthplace of ice cream) and celebrates the traditional Festa dels Geladors every year. As part of the festival, ice cream is distributed to the public for tasting. If you are planning around the festival, check the dates for the relevant edition.
