Finestrat can be explored through a range of interests: Font del Molí is a specific starting point for hikes on Puig Campana, while the Old Town offers its own highlights with its architectural history and a viewpoint. There is also a protected landscape area, a trail to a watchtower on the coast, and patron saint festivals celebrated at the end of August. You can therefore plan your stay around nature, the townscape and recurring events.

Hiking on Puig Campana

Route 26, “Volta al Puig Campana,” starts at Font del Molí in Finestrat. Numerous other hiking trails also lead up to or around Puig Campana. The options therefore range from trails up the mountain to routes that circle it. Trail conditions and signposting can change; check the latest information before setting out.

The protected Puigcampana and Ponotx landscape area is shared by Finestrat, Benidorm, La Nucia and Polop. It is therefore a protected area spanning several municipalities. In 2006, it was granted special protected status because of its rich biodiversity and scenic beauty. Activities available there include mountain sports and climbing.

Getting your bearings at Font del Molí

A municipal description dated 20 December 2020 mentions a signposted, purpose-built path from Font del Molí to the barbecue area and spring. For the Font del Molí recreational area, it lists parking, toilets and a picnic area with tables and masonry benches. This description dates from December 2020; before your visit, check whether the listed facilities are still available as described.

Old Town, church and views

Finestrat’s Old Town is characterised by hanging houses and narrow streets. It stands on the foundations of a former Muslim castle.

The Iglesia Parroquial de San Bartolomé was built in the 18th century and inaugurated and blessed in 1751. Its floor plan is in the shape of a Latin cross; the façade combines Baroque and Neoclassical elements. The construction period and the year of its inauguration refer to different stages in its history.

A well-known viewpoint in the Old Town offers views across the entire comarca and out to the Mediterranean Sea. This makes it possible to combine a visit to the narrow streets and hanging houses with a view over the wider landscape.

Patron saint festivals and coastal trail

The Festes Patronals de Sant Bertomeu i del Crist del Remei de Finestrat are celebrated every year at the end of August and have been held for more than a hundred years. The exact dates vary from year to year. The festivities include food tastings; individual activities may vary each year. If you want to plan your visit around them, check the specific festival dates and programme in advance.

A densely overgrown trail leads to a watchtower near La Cala de Finestrat and runs along a steep coast. Trail conditions can vary; find out more in advance if you are planning this excursion.
