There are several reasons to visit Confrides: mountain scenery, hiking, cultural heritage and regional cuisine. When looking for a hotel in Confrides, you can choose the focus of your stay based on whether you are most interested in nature, hiking trails, historic buildings or local traditions. The following places and activities bring these themes to life.

Mountain Scenery and Natural Features

The Font de l’Arbre recreation area is in the Sierra de Aitana, at an altitude of around 1,200 metres. It has picnic tables beneath poplar trees next to a spring. In the Fanalic area, the river forms an impressive waterfall during periods of heavy rainfall as it plunges down through the gorge. The municipality also includes explored caves and shafts such as Pericos and La Plana; La Plana is the best-known of these shafts. The natural features also differ in their timing: the altitude is a specific reference point for Font de l’Arbre, while the waterfall at Fanalic forms during periods of heavy rainfall.

Hiking and Activities

Confrides offers hiking trails of varying difficulty, including the Circular de Mela loop. The Ruta Gigantes de Piedra is also a hiking route in Confrides. A hiking stage to Pico de Serrella (Recingle Alt) is 3 km long and takes 1.5 hours. These provide different points of comparison for planning: the range of hikes includes different difficulty levels, while the distance and duration are specified for the stage to Pico. Confrides and L’Abdet, within the municipality, are suitable for various adventure sports such as canyoning, climbing and hiking.

Buildings and Traditions

A prominent landmark in the centre of Confrides is the parish church of San José. Castillo de Aljofra is a 13th-century Arab fortress at an altitude of 1,100 metres and is considered the highest castle in Alicante province. Its ruins preserve an Arab rammed-earth wall, a cistern and parts of three defensive towers. The Trinquet del Abdet was built in 1772 in the municipality; it is one of the few courts where Pilota Grossa is played. Different buildings and uses are therefore in focus: the church in the town centre, the fortress ruins and a court associated with a distinctive sporting tradition. Les Chapas de Confrides is another local tradition: the gambling game takes place on the night of Maundy Thursday.

Cuisine and Christmas Fair

The cuisine of Confrides and L’Abdet is shared with the other towns in the Guadalest Valley. Dishes include Olleta de blat, Arroz con pencas, Sopa con pelota, rabbit and Minchos de verdura. The Confrides Christmas fair showcases homemade sweets, regional cuisine, turrón, jams, homemade vinegars and organic products. Two culinary perspectives come together here: dishes from a cuisine shared with the valley and products showcased at the Christmas fair.
