Valley setting and townscape

Benimarfull lies in the Vall de Travadell, a valley that connects Gorga, Millena, Benillup and Benimarfull. The townscape is also shaped by agriculture: winding streets, whitewashed houses, trees and plants are all part of it. The wider valley and the town’s settlement pattern thus offer distinct perspectives. If you are considering Benimarfull as a travel destination, you will find both a broader geographical context and a distinctive townscape.

Getting there and finding your way

Benimarfull can be reached via the N-340 to Muro de Alcoy, and then via the CV-700. On older maps, the CV-700 is marked as the C-3311. If you are comparing maps or route directions, this older road designation can help you find your way: CV-700 and C-3311 refer to the same road.

Church, museum and spa history

The present church building of the parish church of Santa Anna dates from 1663. Under Valencian cultural heritage law, the church is classified as a locally significant cultural asset. It houses altarpieces, sculptures and paintings; the parish museum is now located in the 25-metre-high bell tower. The building’s history, its artworks and the museum represent different aspects of Benimarfull’s cultural heritage.

Another chapter in the town’s history is the former use of the Fuente de Santa Ana, a sulphur-calcium spring. It operated from 1847 to 1936; the associated spa was permanently closed in 1940. The former complex consisted of two large buildings with 70 rooms. This history complements the church with another local focus: the spring and spa’s former importance.

Festivals and local culture

Benimarfull’s August festival takes place on the first weekend of August in honour of Santa Ana, San Jaime and the Santísimo Cristo de la Buena Muerte. The festivities include a Moros y Cristianos parade and a procession in honour of Christ. If you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check the exact dates for your travel year in advance.

The public washhouse is another point of local interest. Benimarfull’s cuisine includes Pelotas de maíz. These topics add further local aspects to the church and festival traditions, and are also part of exploring the town.

Landscape and excursions

The Barranc del Sofre is one of the ravines that drain the municipality of Benimarfull and flow towards the Serpis River. The protected landscape area Paisaje Protegido del Serpis can be explored from Benimarfull. This means that both a specific geographical feature within the municipality and a wider landscape area to explore from Benimarfull are part of the town’s natural setting.

A hiking route in the surroundings of Benimarfull leads to the Font d’Albacar. The Font has a recreational area with a pond, making it a clearly identified destination for an excursion nearby. Almond or cherry trees may also be in bloom during a visit to Benimarfull. This is a possible seasonal landscape highlight alongside the town’s cultural and historical attractions.
