Puntas De Calnegre brings together a beach, protected landscape, trails and a fishing settlement. When choosing where to stay, you can consider the specific differences: the beach is accessible via several routes, hikes vary in length, and an MTB loop passes through several places. The area also features coastal landscapes and traces of traditional fishing.

Coast and protected landscape

Puntas de Calnegre forms the northeastern boundary of the Calnegre y Cabo Cope Regional Park. The area has been protected since 1992. The regional park brings together Mediterranean scrubland, beaches, cliffs, salt marshes, rambla valleys and fossil dunes. The Calnegre area has been designated a Site of Community Importance since 2000 and is part of the Natura 2000 network. This means the surroundings offer more than just a beach to plan around: you can also shape your stay around the landscape and trails.

Playa Puntas de Calnegre

Playa Puntas de Calnegre is in the Calnegre settlement and is classified as a semi-urban beach. You can reach the beach on foot, by car or by boat; access is signposted from the RM-D21. As road conditions and access regulations may change, check the information before setting out. Bathing conditions are rated as moderate and can vary with the weather and sea conditions.

Beach facilities include a picnic area, toilets, beach bars, foot-washing stations, walkways, first aid, lifeguards, a tourist information office, restaurants and a children's play area. Some services may vary seasonally. If specific facilities are important to your plans, check their seasonal availability in advance. This helps you plan your beach visit as part of your stay without assuming that bathing conditions and facilities remain the same year-round.

Hiking: comparing route lengths

The Ruta de Senderismo Cuartel de Ciscar circular hike starts at the Albergue Municipal de Puntas de Calnegre and runs through the Cabo Cope and Puntas de Calnegre Regional Park. Its approximately 12-kilometre route follows dirt and rocky paths along the coast and has only minor elevation changes. The length and modest elevation changes describe the route; actual trail conditions may vary.

A shorter route is the hike called “Senderismo en familia Playa de Percheles”: it is 6.7 kilometres long and crosses Puntas de Calnegre in the direction of Mazarrón. Some sections pass over rocky terrain. The distances give you a concrete comparison of the routes: approximately 12 kilometres for the Cuartel de Ciscar circular hike and 6.7 kilometres for the Percheles hike.

Fishing settlement, cycling route and cuisine

The Puntas de Calnegre fishing settlement consists of a group of structures associated with traditional fishing activities along the coast of the Región de Murcia. These include a former Guardia Civil barracks building, restored as a hostel, and a chapel. If the building's current use matters to your plans, check locally.

Cycling is also represented by a named circular route: the Ruta MTB de Morata passes through Puntas de Calnegre, Pastrana, Morata, Ugejar and Ramonete. Some sections follow the former railway line that climbed towards Morata. This gives you a way to identify the route not only by the place names but also by this section of the former railway line.

For a taste of the wider coastal area, try arroz y pulpo. The dish is one of the area's typical foods and is usually served with chopped local tomatoes and a little olive oil. Overall, you can think of Puntas de Calnegre in terms of different interests: as a beach destination, a starting point for a hike, part of a cycling route, or a place to explore through its fishing settlement and regional cuisine.
