Puerto De Mazarron offers several distinct points of interest for a stay: a town beach with a promenade, a sports harbour, and themes from Phoenician and Roman history. When looking for a hotel, you can plan your trip around what interests you: should the water and promenade be the main focus, or would you also like to spend time exploring archaeology and crafts? The following places and dates provide practical guidance.

Beach and sports harbour

Playa del Puerto de Mazarrón is a town beach with a promenade. The sports harbour is next to the promenade, opposite Mazarrón beach and 200 m from it. This means you can consider the beach, promenade, and harbour as distinct points of reference for a stay by the water.

There is a bus stop for the Mazarrón–Murcia line at Playa del Puerto de Mazarrón; boats can also be rented there. If you plan to use the bus connection, check the timetable before travelling. Boat rentals are another practical option for plans centred on the beach.

Phoenician finds and Roman fish processing

The “Barco Fenicio de Mazarrón” Interpretation Centre features an audiovisual presentation, graphic material, models, information panels on the history of the Phoenicians and their connection with Mazarrón, and a ship replica. The centre also covers two Phoenician boats found in the area off Playa de La Isla, which are described as the oldest boats discovered in the Mediterranean.

The Mazarrón II boat lies under the sea off Playa de La Isla and is covered by a metal structure for protection; it is therefore not currently visible. The exhibition thus covers both Phoenician history and the finds, as well as their presentation through a ship replica.

Roman fish processing is the focus of the Factoría Romana de Salazones. The site is protected as a Bien de Interés Cultural in the Archaeological Zone category. The Museo Arqueológico y Factoría Romana de Salazones preserves parts of an important industrial complex from Roman times, where salted fish and fish sauces were produced. During a cultural visit to the Factoría Romana de Salazones, the fish-processing methods of the time were explained: how the Romans salted and preserved fish and which fish sauces they used, including garum. These topics span the archaeological site and the processing techniques used at the time.

Market dates and diving

The Mercadillo Artesanal takes place on the third Saturday of every month. In June, July, and August, it is also held on the fourth Saturday. If visiting the market is important to your trip, check the date in advance.

Cala del Faro is suitable for beginner diving courses. The coastline of Mazarrón is 35 kilometres long and includes numerous unspoilt coves and impressive diving areas with underwater caves.
