Inazares: Mountain Landscape, Karst and Trails
Accommodation in Inazares
When looking for a hotel in Inazares, it helps to decide what you want to focus on: would you like to explore hiking trails, learn about the area’s geology, or set aside time for local history and festival traditions? Inazares offers specific points of interest in its mountain landscape, at the Dolina de Inazares and in the village itself.
Mountain Landscape and High-Altitude Destinations
The Sierra de Villafuerte lies east of Inazares, while the village is also surrounded by the foothills of the Sierra de Revolcadores. Villafuerte is the highest point in the Sierra de Villafuerte, reaching 1,750 metres. Nearby, Revolcadores is a destination for mountain hikes. Because of its elevation, the mountain remains snow-covered for several months of the year.
Hiking Trails Around Inazares
The named hiking route “En ruta por Revolcadores” begins in Inazares, next to Bar El Nogal. The official mountain hiking trail “Sendero de Montaña. Asenso al Pico del Obispo” starts in the hamlet of Inazares. Its ascent passes through an area protected as both an LIC and a ZEPA within the Natura 2000 network. The route’s ascent and descent are marked with white and yellow PR trail signs.
One route from Inazares leads to the geodetic summit marker at Los Obispos, at an elevation of 2,015 metres. These elevation figures refer to different destinations: Villafuerte reaches 1,750 metres, while Los Obispos is listed at 2,015 metres. This makes it easier to distinguish which summit elevation applies to each destination when planning a hike.
The Dolina de Inazares: Geology and Access
In the Region of Murcia, the Dolina de Inazares is considered the most representative catalogued example of this type of exokarstic landform. It can be reached on foot from the road to Inazares. The doline is about 550 metres southwest to west-southwest of this road and around 1,500 metres before Inazares. Several paths lead close to it from Inazares or from the road.
The visit is considered suitable for all visitor groups; no difficulty level is specified. Nevertheless, take care when accessing the site in rain, snow or thunderstorms: a stream must be crossed, and the paths are unpaved. These weather conditions are therefore a practical consideration when planning a visit to the doline.
Local History, Festival and Cuisine
The church of Inazares is dedicated to Saint Nicholas of Bari and was built in 1889. Its interior preserves its original lines, along with some of the furnishings and ornamentation from the time it was built. A document from 1507 mentions Inazares, from which it can be inferred that the village was already an inhabited settlement at that time.
Inazares’s patron saint festival is celebrated in honour of Saint Nicholas. It usually takes place on the second or third weekend in August, although the dates may vary from year to year. If you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check the dates for the relevant year. Migas con tropezones is considered a notable traditional dish. Roast lamb and grilled lamb are typical foods served at the patron saint festival.
Getting There and Travel Planning
The route to Inazares follows the AutovĂa del Noroeste (C-415) and then the C-330 towards Barranda. After passing through Barranda, a right-hand turn leads to Inazares. Route 2, “Pequeños NĂşcleos de PoblaciĂłn,” also passes through the village.
