Explore Manzanal de los Infantes via its hiking trails, cultural heritage, and the landscape along the RĂo Negro. You can plan your trip around a range of features: a ten-kilometre hiking route, churches and hermitages in several localities within the municipality, and riverbanks, forests, and designated recreational areas.

Hiking routes, mills, and forest paths

The Ruta de los molinos del rĂo Negro is a ten-kilometre hiking route. More than 15 grain mills are located in the municipality, along the RĂo Negro corridor between Lanseros de la Encomienda and Otero de Centenos. Traditional paths pass through oak forests, pine plantations, and groves of centuries-old chestnut trees. This gives you the choice of a clearly defined walking route as well as different landscape and cultural heritage themes to explore.

The Ruta BTT de La Carballeda is marked in both directions as a circular route within the municipality. Another planned option is the Lanseros–Sejas mushroom route. It is intended to start in Manzanal de los Infantes on the right bank of the Río Negro and continue through meadows and oak forests to the Ermita de San Tirso in Lanseros. This route is described as a plan, not as a confirmed existing tour.

The Ruta de las ermitas also offers a distinct hiking focus: it leads to a group of eleven hermitages in the municipality. When comparing routes, you can distinguish between the ten-kilometre mill route, the mountain-biking option designated as a circular route, and the planned mushroom route.

Churches and hermitages

Dornillas and Donadillo are among the places with named cultural heritage sites. The local cemetery is located at the Ermita de San Tirso in Dornillas. In Donadillo, the parish church of Santa Eufemia and the Ermita de la Vera Cruz are part of the municipality’s cultural heritage. The Ruta de las ermitas and these specific buildings offer different starting points for a culture-focused stay.

The churches also differ in their documented features. The church in Manzanal dates from the early 13th century. The church in Lanseros combines Romanesque and Renaissance styles. The Iglesia de San Miguel Arcángel is a single-nave masonry church; only the shell of the walls of the nave remains. For your selection, this means that an early date is the main feature in Manzanal, the combination of two styles in Lanseros, and the described surviving structure at San Miguel Arcángel.

The RĂo Negro and nature

River beaches have formed along the banks of the RĂo Negro within the municipality. You can go hiking there, and water sports are possible at the river beaches. A bathing area with a picnic spot is also designated on the RĂo Negro. If you include this area in your plans, check that it is currently accessible before visiting. The Molinos del RĂo Negro route also includes a naturally well-preserved black alder woodland along the RĂo Negro.

The forested landscape also offers the possibility of spotting animals, although sightings are not guaranteed: walkers may encounter red deer and roe deer. Possible wildlife encounters thus complement the hiking and forest themes, while the riverbanks, black alder woodland, and designated bathing area offer a distinct connection to the RĂo Negro.
