Cerdillo lies at an altitude of about 1,100 metres above sea level in the granite landscape of La Cabrera and preserves its traditional architecture. This offers different starting points when planning a stay: hiking, landscape and architectural heritage. When choosing a hotel for a trip to Cerdillo, it is worth considering your planned hikes and your interest in local history. Those who enjoy exploring on foot will find named hiking trails in the natural park, as well as the path from Cerdillo to the beehive.

Hiking trails and route planning

The following are designated hiking trails in the Parque natural Lago de Sanabria y sierras Segundera y de Porto: Cerdillo–Colmenar, Cerdillo–Molino Botero, Cerdillo–San Ciprián and Cerdillo–Murias–Vigo de Sanabria. The trail names give you an initial guide for planning your outings: they refer to the Colmenar, Molino Botero, San Ciprián, and Murias and Vigo de Sanabria. You can use the named destinations to help plan your hikes; the route to the beehive also provides a specific total distance as a guide.

The path to the beehive starts in Cerdillo; the round trip is 4.5 kilometres long. It is a linear, open and straightforward route, and is also suitable for children. The distance and route characteristics offer different points of reference for planning: the kilometre figure refers to the entire round trip, while the other details describe the route. Along the way, the path passes through oak forests. Information panels cover the flora, fauna and traditional life of the Sanabria region. The walk thus combines nature-related topics with regional everyday life. After rain, rocky or grassy sections may become slippery; take this possible trail condition into account when planning.

Architecture and walking tour

At the Colmenar de Faldriego, form and function are closely connected: the circular floor plan, high walls and projecting overhang served to protect against bears. Cerdillo’s traditional architecture is thus evident in a specific structure and its protective function. Molino Botero is in good condition. In addition, the Senda del Colmenar de Cerdillo is part of the “Hombres y bosques” walking tour. These connections highlight different aspects: the building’s design and purpose, the condition of a mill, and the inclusion of a Senda in a walking tour.

Festivals and directions

The Kedada Trail Cerdirock has been held repeatedly during Cerdillo’s patron saint festivities; it was organised by the Asociación Cultural CERDIROCK. In 2023, the Concejo was reactivated in Cerdillo to review the festivities held around 15 August. These two references highlight different aspects of festival life: a recurring trail event and the review of local celebrations.

To get there, take exit 79 on the A-52. From there, follow the ZA-104 to El Puente; then take the ZA-114 to Trefacio and Cerdillo.
