Torre Val De San Pedro: Hiking, mountain biking and nature
Accommodation in Torre Val De San Pedro
Landscape and protected areas
The municipality of Torre Val De San Pedro extends into the high mountains around Nevero, which reaches a maximum elevation of 2,209 metres. The municipality also includes Pinar de Navafría, with its yew groves. The entire area is part of the Natura 2000 network and the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park. If protected areas are important to your trip planning, check the latest guidance before setting out on a specific excursion.
Circular routes and places to rest
The Ruta del Agua is a 15 km circular hiking route that starts and ends in Torre Val De San Pedro. The Ruta de La Bardera, by contrast, is a 21 km mountain biking loop that passes through the three villages belonging to the municipality. When choosing between the two, both the stated distance and the mode of travel are relevant: one route is designated as a circular hiking route, the other as a mountain biking loop.
Each of the three villages has a rest area along the Ruta de La Bardera, with bicycle racks, picnic tables, bins, fountains and information boards. Facilities may change, so check their current status before your trip if you plan to rely on them.
Routes with different connections to the town
The Camino de San Frutos is a pilgrimage route between Segovia and the Ermita de San Frutos. Its third stage is 18.1 km long and runs from Pelayos del Arroyo via Torre Val De San Pedro to Pedraza. This places the route through the town within a specifically identified stage of the pilgrimage route.
The Camino Natural de la Cañada Real Soriana Occidental can be travelled on foot and, for almost its entire length, by mountain bike. A short stage runs from Collado Hermoso past La Salceda; beyond the N-110, Torre Val De San Pedro comes into view before the stage reaches Navafría. Its connection with the town therefore differs from that of the Camino de San Frutos: the third stage of that route passes through Torre Val De San Pedro, while the town is visible beyond the road from the Camino Natural.
Cultural events and local traditions
The Nuestra Señora del Rosario festival takes place on the second weekend of October; the specific programme may change. If you are planning your trip around the festival, check the latest programme in advance. Torre Val de San Pedro also preserves a Paloteo dance tradition, performed in the male Enaguado costume. This local tradition, which is more than 400 years old, is connected with devotion to the Rosary, introduced by Pope Pius V on the occasion of the Battle of Lepanto (1571).
Glass art is also among the cultural activities in the town: you can book courses with Raúl Santana and visit exhibitions of his glass art. Course availability may change. If a course is important to your trip, confirm your booking in advance.
