Monsagro brings together heritage and nature, with several specific themes to explore on a trip. The Eras de Monsagro, a botanical garden, a bathing area and two hiking trails offer different points of interest. If you are looking for a hotel in Monsagro, your travel interests can help you choose a focus: the threshing floors and festivals represent the area’s heritage, while the garden and trails offer nature and outdoor activities.

Monsagro is one of the municipalities in the Las Batuecas-Sierra de Francia Natural Park and the Sierras de Béjar and de Francia Biosphere Reserve. The surrounding area can therefore be viewed from two perspectives: as a protected natural area and as a place with a rich ethnographic heritage. Local points of interest include both the historic threshing-floor complex and the flora of the natural park.

The Eras de Monsagro and their traditions

The Eras de Monsagro comprise 30 circular threshing floors laid out on terraces. Stone walls enclose the floors, topped with a row of slate slabs. Their circular shape, terraced location and building materials are distinctive features of the complex. On 11 December 2025, the Junta de Castilla y León declared the Eras a Bien de Interés Cultural in the “Ethnographic Complex” category. Its designation as an ethnographic complex reflects the connection between the structures and the tradition associated with them.

The traditional Día de la Trilla takes place each year at the Eras on the first weekend in August. The festival’s name refers to threshing, which is also reflected in the name of the threshing floors. Another date in the annual calendar is 28 January, when Monsagro celebrates its winter patron saint’s festival in honor of its patron, Saint Julián, the bishop. The two dates therefore fall in distinctly different seasons and offer different cultural highlights to consider when planning a trip.

Botanical Garden and Bathing Area

Monsagro’s botanical garden showcases the native flora of the Las Batuecas-Sierra de Francia Natural Park across an area of almost two hectares. Laid out as a circular route, it features explanatory and identification panels alongside more than 40 tree and shrub species. The focus is on learning about different woody plants, unlike the hiking trails, whose details primarily concern distance, duration and difficulty.

Another natural attraction is El Charco de los Mozos, a fully equipped bathing area. It can be reached via a pleasant walk of less than one kilometer. Check the current condition of the bathing area before your visit.

Plan Your Hiking Trails and Journey

The municipal route information, updated on 7 April 2021, gives the Camino Rubio a distance of 6.62 kilometers, a duration of 1 hour and 38 minutes, and an “easy” difficulty rating. The Camino Rosa is listed as 7.14 kilometers long and taking 2 hours and 5 minutes; its difficulty rating is moderate. According to these figures, the Camino Rosa is 0.52 kilometers longer, and the stated durations differ by 27 minutes. This lets you compare the distance, duration and rating directly. Route details can change, so check the latest information before setting out.

From Salamanca, a bus operated by Autocares J. Cristeto goes to El Cabaco; continue from there by taxi. Check the timetable before departure, as schedules can change. Your trip planning can therefore include several distinct themes: the Eras and their festival traditions, the botanical garden trail, the bathing area, and the two routes with their respective stated durations and difficulty ratings.
