Two themes come together for a stay in Linares de Riofrío: the forests and landscapes around La Honfría, and traces of earlier work, including wine presses carved into the rock and lime kilns. There is also a circular route, viewpoints and several places with picnic facilities. If you are looking for a hotel, you can start by asking which of these aspects you want to shape your trip. The destinations below offer different highlights, from mixed woodland to the late-winter blossom and historic structures.

La Honfría, Blossom and Views

La Honfría is a mixed forest dominated by chestnut trees and Pyrenean oaks. Holly and hazel shrubs are also particularly abundant. The mixed forest offers a different natural highlight from the seasonal blossom at Peña Tarrera, where numerous daffodils bloom at the end of winter. When planning your trip, these features should be considered at different timescales: the forest as a defining part of the landscape, and the daffodils as a seasonal display of blossom. From El Hueco, you can enjoy panoramic views of the Valle de las Quilamas. This adds a scenic perspective to the plant life.

Circular Route and Earlier Production

The Sendero de La Honfría is an approximately 7-kilometre circular route near Linares de Riofrío and is considered suitable for the general public. Its approximate length and circular layout make it easy to plan as a single continuous walk. A forest track from Linares allows you to drive almost all the way to the top of La Honfría Park. Walking and driving are therefore two different ways to plan your visit.

There are several lime kilns along the route to La Honfría. Three more kilns stand beside an old factory, where a type of lime known as cal morena was once produced. This former production gives the lime kilns a distinct historical and cultural significance. Six rock-cut wine presses add to the historic remains. They are located in the areas of Coquilla, Las Viñas, Majada Llana, Las Carreteras, Los Vallejos and Relagüesa. Their construction differs markedly from that of the lime kilns, as they are carved into the rock. The six named areas also show that the wine presses are spread across several locations.

Picnic Spots and the Landscape

Fuente el Cerezo has recreational areas and picnic spots among centuries-old chestnut trees. Fuente de la Honfría also has a picnic area, as well as a children’s playground, a spring and barbecue facilities. There is also a shelter that is now rarely used. The two places have different highlights: at Fuente el Cerezo, the old chestnut trees shape the setting, while Fuente de la Honfría brings several facilities together.

In the Las Quilamas landscape, Mediterranean woodland covers the terrain and connects the oak pastures there with the nearby Las Batuecas-Sierra de Francia Natural Park.

If you are looking for a hotel in Linares de Riofrío, the pace you want for your trip can be a useful first filter: would you like to plan a circular route as one continuous walk, or focus on different natural and cultural sites?
