Aldeadávila de la Ribera combines local history with the landscape along the Duero. When planning your stay, you can choose from a range of interests: the self-guided route through Aldeadávila and Corporario, viewpoints overlooking the gorge, hiking and cycling options, and a seasonal boat trip. This lets you focus your stay more on architectural history, views or outdoor activities.

A route through Aldeadávila and Corporario

The self-guided route passes through the town centre of Aldeadávila and the associated settlement of Corporario, introducing the history of both places. It starts at the Ermita de San Sebastián, which houses the tourist information office. The route ends at Corporario's traditional washhouse and leads back to Aldeadávila from there. Black ceramic plaques mark the way and make it easier to follow the route. The focus is therefore on the history and layout of both places; the viewpoints offer a different perspective on the landscape.

Views of the Duero

Mirador de Viña Cerrá is located in Parque Natural Arribes del Duero and offers views of the Duero and neighbouring Portugal. From Mirador del Fraile, you can see the deep Duero gorge, Presa de Aldeadávila and the granite walls of the gorge. Picón de Felipe is also one of the classic viewpoints in Aldeadávila de la Ribera and is well worth a visit. Mirador de la Presa is located above Presa de Aldeadávila and can be reached by road from Poblado de la Verde.

At present, allow for a walk of about 1.2 kilometres down a steep path to reach Mirador del Fraile. Parking is available at Merendero Llano de la Bodega. Check access conditions before your visit, as they may change. This means you can plan for this viewpoint differently from a visit to the viewpoint above Presa, which is accessible by road.

Hiking, cycling and a boat trip

Route 5, Majadas del Rostro, offers hikers impressive views along the way. The Senda del Duero, also known as GR-14, includes Aldeadávila de la Ribera as one of its stages in the province of Salamanca. For cyclists, Centro BTT de Aldeadávila offers more than 250 kilometres of properly signposted routes classified by difficulty. Hiking and cycling are two different ways to experience the area actively; the cycling routes are also graded by difficulty.

Playa del Rostro can be reached from Aldeadávila or via Corporario. In the area around the Playa, you can take an approximately 90-minute boat trip on the Duero, which goes as far as the vicinity of Presa de Aldeadávila. The service may be seasonal, so check current sailing options in advance. The approximate duration gives you a concrete point of reference for planning your time, while the other options mentioned focus on different walking routes and views.

Local history, architecture and the olive festival

Ecomuseo de Las Majadas del Rostro is a signposted, interpretive site about the former way of life of the shepherds who lived there with their families and flocks. In Aldeadávila, the parish church of San Salvador is one of the town's three religious buildings. Palacio del Marqués de Caballero is a neoclassical building made of granite masonry. The Ermita del Santo Cristo del Humilladero features murals on its ribbed vault with terceletes.

Convento de Santa Marina La Verde also tells the story of the town: the former Franciscan monastery was abandoned following the Desamortización de Mendizábal and restored by Iberduero for use as an inn. The original chapel dates from the 13th century; the convent is privately owned.

Fiesta de la Aceituna, el Aceite y el Olivo is held in December in honour of the olive, one of the region's most important fruits. At the festival, visitors are served toast with oil from that year's harvest, fried eggs and Arribes del Duero wine. Alongside the buildings and historic routes, this offers a glimpse of the region's olive culture.
