Baños de Valdearados offers several distinct reasons to visit: a Late Roman villa, a church with features from different periods, a chapel on a hill riddled with cellars, as well as winegrowing and the Fiesta a Baco. There is also the Sendero del Vallejo del Lobo PRC-BU 70, which follows the Bañuelos River to vineyards and higher ground. If you are looking for a hotel in Baños de Valdearados, these themes can help you decide what to focus on during your trip: archaeological history, architecture, wine or landscape.

Roman Villa and Technical Features

The Villa romana de Santa Cruz dates from the 4th to the 6th century and is a Late Roman villa. Its features included systems for supplying, storing and draining water, as well as heating. Alongside its historical period, the site therefore offers a glimpse of specific technical functions: water was supplied, stored and drained, and the villa also had heating.

A notice dated August 19, 2026, listed visiting hours for the villa as Wednesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., as well as Saturday, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Check the opening hours before your trip, as schedules can change.

Church and Views of the Town

The Iglesia parroquial de Nuestra Sra. De la Asunción is a Neoclassical church dating from the 17th century; its portal is in the Renaissance style. Inside are altarpieces and Gothic carvings from the 18th century. These details therefore refer to different periods: the church dates from the 17th century, while the cited furnishings date from the 18th century.

The Ermita del Santo Cristo del Consuelo stands on a hill riddled with cellars. From there, you can see Baños de Valdearados. This spot brings together a religious building, the hill’s distinctive formation and views of the town.

Vineyards and Scenery on the Sendero del Vallejo del Lobo

The Sendero del Vallejo del Lobo PRC-BU 70 runs from a recreational area on the edge of town, parallel to the Bañuelos River, to the vineyards and stone guardaviñas. These former shelters were used by the people who tended the vines before the harvest. The trail thus links a winegrowing landscape with traces of the work involved in cultivating the vines.

At the highest point of the valley, on the Páramo, the trail offers views of the Sierras de Cervera, as well as grain fields, vineyards and old tenadas. The scenery here differs from the individual buildings in town: the valley and its agricultural surroundings take centre stage. If you are interested in the vineyards, you can combine this perspective with a visit to Mosaico de Baco.

Fiesta a Baco and Wine Culture

The Fiesta a Baco is a recurring historical reenactment festival with ties to the Roman world, held in the centre of Baños de Valdearados. The 2026 edition took place on August 22 and 23. The programme includes theatrical performances, legionary parades, gladiator fights, birds of prey displays and participation in the Baco Race. At the taverns, visitors can sample local products alongside a wine from Ribera del Duero.

At Mosaico de Baco, you can learn about the winery and get information on the production, ageing, bottling and labelling of its wines. Afterwards, you can taste two representative wines; reservations are recommended. You can also ask the winery about visits to the centuries-old vineyards in the municipality of Baños de Valdearados.

Regional cuisine offers another way to explore the area. Dishes include Migas a la pastora, lamb and wild boar stews, mushrooms, Frite de cordero, fresh sheep’s cheese, lamb stew and chickpea stew, as well as the famous sopa de ajo carretero. Together with winegrowing and the Fiesta, this gives the destination a culinary dimension distinct from its archaeological and architectural attractions.
