Torremenga combines a circular route through the countryside with historic landmarks in the town. If you are looking for a hotel in Torremenga, these different highlights can guide your planning: the route takes you to natural features, while Plaza de España, the church, and Torre Menguada reflect the town’s history. You can tailor your stay to the themes that interest you.

Circular Route, Landscape, and Connection to Jaraíz

The Ruta los Cotos-Dehesa Boyal is a 6.5-kilometre circular route with a low level of difficulty, designated as local trail SL-CC 52. It starts at Plaza de España. Check the local signs before setting off. Its length, circular format, and difficulty rating give you concrete points of reference for deciding how much hiking to include in your stay.

Along its route, the trail passes through Las Tejoneras, where the spring of the same name has nine basins. Centuries-old oak trees grow in the Dehesa Boyal de Torremenga. The route also reaches the Embalse del Robledo, where you can observe the birdlife that lives there, and Torremenga’s public swimming pool. This way, the loop combines the oak woodland of Dehesa Boyal with the opportunity to watch birds at the reservoir.

Another type of route is the paved promenade, about two kilometres long, between Torremenga and Jaraíz. It is shorter than the 6.5-kilometre circular route and connects two towns rather than forming a loop. This is a practical distinction for planning your trip: you can choose between a loop starting at Plaza de España and a route connecting to Jaraíz, without treating the two route types as the same.

Plaza de España and Historic Buildings

Plaza de España is partly lined with arcades and also has a pilón typical of the area. The Iglesia Parroquial de Santiago was built between the 16th and 17th centuries and is dedicated to Santiago Apóstol. The arcades and pilón characterize the square, while the church combines a specific construction period with its religious dedication.

Torre Menguada stands on the edge of town and is widely considered to be a Visigothic tower. Torremenga therefore brings together different historical periods: the church’s construction date is identified as between the 16th and 17th centuries, while the tower is widely classified as Visigothic.

Las Tejoneras also has ties to the area’s rural history: the site was once used for threshing. Since the Ruta los Cotos-Dehesa Boyal passes through Las Tejoneras, the route’s landscape features meet a place with a history of agricultural use.

Patron Saint’s Day and Religious Pageant

Torremenga celebrates the feast of its patron saint, Santiago Apóstol, on 25 July. If you are interested in this patron saint’s feast, the date is a useful reference point for planning your trip.

The religious pageant “Judas” depicts a trial of Judas and is performed by local residents. Later in the pageant, Judas is shown being burned at the stake in the square, followed by a large fireworks display. This offers another insight into Torremenga’s religious-themed performances, without conflating the event with the patron saint’s feast, which takes place on a fixed date.
