The EX-204 runs through Caminomorisco and provides connections towards Coria and Salamanca. The municipality has natural attractions in various locations: the El Melero meander is near Riomalo de Abajo. There, hiking opportunities combine with a viewpoint over the landscape along the Alagón River and a natural pool on the Ladrillar River. The Mirador del Chorrerón del Tajo, also known as Salto del Alavea, is also in the municipality; from there, you can look out over the Alavea River waterfall.

Circular Hiking Routes from Caminomorisco

Three circular hiking routes start at the Caminomorisco tourist information office. The Ruta Chorrerón del Tajo follows white-and-green markings on local trails and runs along tracks and firebreaks. The Ruta Pisá de la Mora also starts at the tourist information office and returns to Caminomorisco. The Ruta Hotel de insectos follows firebreaks from the same starting point on its way back to the village. The routes therefore differ in their described itineraries: one focuses on trail markings and different types of paths, while the others focus on the return to Caminomorisco. Check current trail conditions before setting out.

The tourist information office is next to the EX-204, in the Casa de Cultura building. There you can get information about the Las Hurdes region. As visitor services may change, it is worth checking the details again before your trip. Arrobuey has a special access requirement: it can only be reached by off-road vehicle or on foot. Conditions on unpaved roads may also vary.

Water and Landscape

Those comparing natural attractions will find different bodies of water and viewpoints: the natural pool on the Ladrillar River is at El Melero, while the Mirador del Chorrerón del Tajo offers a view of the Alavea waterfall. The natural bathing spot El Hoyón is also near Fuente la Teja. Water conditions and local regulations may vary; check conditions on site before swimming. A planned insect hotel near Caminomorisco aims to raise awareness of bee decline and the ecological importance of insects.

Traces of History and Architecture

The Petroglifo Piedra Mora depicts footprints alongside weapons, including spearheads and a dagger. The engravings date from between the Iron Age and the Middle Ages. To get there from the direction of Pinofranqueado, before reaching Caminomorisco, take a track from the fire station to the Aceña and continue to the engravings near the former tree nursery site. Conditions along the route may change.

The architectural style also offers insight into regional architecture. The Casa de Cultura de Caminomorisco is built of stone and slate and draws on traditional Hurdano vernacular architecture. Near Cambrón stands a bridge built in the 13th century so that people and livestock could cross the river during floods. It, too, was built of stone and slate according to the principles of traditional Hurdano architecture.

The Centro de interpretación del Agua y Medio ambiente de las Hurdes is located in the Alquería de Cambrón in Caminomorisco. It is housed in a former oil mill and focuses in particular on the region’s biodiversity. The Carnaval Hurdano is also significant for understanding the culture beyond the town: throughout the Las Hurdes region, it is considered an important part of local identity and is held each year in a different Alquería. The changing venue is part of its regional character.
