Canet D'adri combines a distinctive forest landscape with volcanic features and historic buildings. Those looking for a hotel for a trip to the municipality can weigh nature, hiking and history as different priorities. Notable natural features include the gorges of the Riera de Canet and two high points; the history of its buildings ranges from the prehistoric dolmen to Romanesque churches. The municipality thus offers several clearly distinct themes to consider when planning a trip.

Forests, volcanic features and paths

Parc de la Font de la Torre lies next to the deep volcanic gorges of the Riera de Canet. Rock overhangs, small waterfalls and pools are part of this gorge landscape. Forest cover also shapes the landscape: forests cover 83 percent of the municipal area. These include holm oaks, cork oaks, oaks and pines. Thus, individual features in the gorge area contrast with a largely forested setting.

Puig d’Adri is a 408-metre-high, forested volcanic cone that rises above the surrounding farmland, fields, farmhouses and patches of woodland. Puigsou marks a different elevation: at 985 metres, it is the highest point in the municipality. These figures provide a comparison between a named volcanic cone and the highest point in the municipal area.

The restored CamĂ antic de Canet a Adri connects the towns of Canet and Adri. If you include this path in your hiking plans, check its condition before setting out: it can vary with the seasons.

History in buildings and the landscape

The Dolmen de la Mota is a megalithic burial monument. It was erected in the Late Neolithic, between 2500 and 2200 BC, and used as a burial site throughout the Bronze Age until the 8th century BC. Its construction and use therefore belong to different prehistoric periods.

Sant Vicenç de Canet was mentioned as early as 822. The basilica church has three naves ending in three semicircular apses. Alongside its early mention, this clearly articulated architectural form is another aspect of the church’s history.

At Sant Llorenç d’Adri, the Romanesque façades are fully preserved and incorporated into the present-day building. The west portal also has a detailed design: three stepped archivolts frame the entrance, and each side has a base, column and capital. This allows the preserved façades to be considered alongside a specific architectural detail.

The parish church of Biert already existed in the 10th century. It was rebuilt in the early 11th century and again in the 12th century. For the parish church of Montcal, the historical reference point is 1057, when it was mentioned. The present-day building is originally a 12th-century Romanesque structure, with later extensions. The comparison shows different building histories: repeated rebuilding at Biert and a Romanesque origin with later additions at Montcal.

Regional events and dining

The Festa Remença takes place annually in different villages of the Vall de Llémena. The programme includes traditional dances, history talks, a theatrical performance and medieval cuisine. As the venue and dates change from year to year, check both if you want to combine the festival with your trip.

Canet D'adri has numerous restaurants serving home-cooked food. For specific dining plans, check the individual establishments and their current opening status.
