Vilanova del Vallès offers several distinct themes to consider when planning a trip: local viticulture, landscapes, local traditions and architecture. If you are looking for a hotel, these themes can help you decide which interests to focus on during your stay. The trails, geological contrasts and buildings each offer their own highlights.

Viticulture Trails and Excursions

On the Ruta de la Il·lusió, hidden QR codes at each stop provide information about features of local viticulture and a game. The Ruta dels Capellans is 3 km long, is particularly suitable for outings with children, and leads into the Bosc dels Capellans, a forest of pines, holm oaks and cork oaks. This gives you a choice of focus: a playful introduction to viticulture on the one hand, or a 3 km route into the forest that is particularly suitable for outings with children on the other.

Landscape along the Mogent

The Mogent divides the municipality into two geologically distinct areas. On the right bank are Upper Miocene sediments: conglomerates, marls, sands and light-coloured clays. They give rise to gentle landforms and soils suitable for cultivation. On the left bank, by contrast, granite predominates, covered with pines. The river therefore marks not only a geographical boundary, but also separates two distinct geological areas.

The municipality stretches along the Mogent River in a northeast–southwest direction, as does the Serralada Prelitoral. Another point of reference in terms of elevation is Mount Céllecs: at 534 m, it is the highest point of the Parc de la Serralada Litoral within the municipality.

Architecture and Views

The Santuari de Santa Quitèria combines Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance architectural elements. These different influences make the sanctuary a layered architectural feature that cannot be reduced to a single style. From there, you can see parts of Vallès Oriental, including Montseny, Montserrat, Sant Llorenç del Munt and Puigmal in the Pyrenees. This is where architecture and views across several parts of the region come together.

Can Safont is a large farmhouse; its central building has a basilica-style floor plan. A few metres from the house are preserved remains of a disused brick kiln. These include two semicircular openings, built with exposed bricks, through which the kiln was accessed. The short distance between them makes the contrast between the farmhouse and the kiln remains a tangible comparison of local building styles.

Local Traditions Throughout the Year

The Aplec de Santa Quitèria takes place at Pentecost, known locally as the second Pentecost (Pasqua granada). The Festa Major is held in honour of Sant Lleïr, the patron saint of the municipality; it takes place on the Monday before the last Thursday in August. If you want to plan your trip around one of these events, check the date for the year you wish to visit. The traditions follow different calendar cues: Pasqua granada for the Aplec, and a date based on an August rule for the Festa Major.
