Torelló: Museums, Markets and Hiking Trails
Accommodation in Torelló
If you’d like to include culture, local history, and hiking in your trip, Torelló offers a range of options. The town’s history comes to life in its museums and historic buildings; markets provide regular dates to plan around, and two hiking trails can be compared by their routes and stated durations.
Crafts and industrial history
The Museu de la Torneria is housed in the former Can Vidal factory in Torelló. It focuses on wood and horn turning: the museum explains how this became a complementary industry to the textile sector during industrialisation. This topic brings traditional crafts together with the transformation of Catalan industry.
The manufacturing process is also a subject in its own right. Starting with a tree trunk, the Museu de la Torneria shows how it is processed into products such as a loom bobbin, a warp thread reel, or a spinning machine spindle. Anyone interested in the history of work and manufacturing will find both the craft of working with materials and its connection to the textile industry here.
Historic centre and buildings
In Torelló’s historic centre, old houses feature round-arched doorways or carved lintels. They recall traditional local family lineages, including Codolosa, Parrella, Pujols, Vinyes, and Calveria. As you walk around, look out for these architectural features and place the family names in the context of local history.
The Church of Sant Feliu de Torelló was already in existence in 881. The Teatre Cirvianum dates from 1925. The Santuari de Rocaprevera also has a clearly documented building history: the present-day building was constructed from 1924 onwards to a design by Josep M. Pericas.
The Castell de Torelló stands on a hill as the valley’s furthest-flung viewpoint. The only visible remnant of the castle is a truncated tower, dated to 821. The Museu de l’ADET is located in the parish church attic and opened in 1948. Its collections include archaeological, historical, and artistic objects, craft tools used in the town’s trades, minerals, coins, and plans of old roads.
Markets and local events
Torelló’s weekly market dates back to 1270. It takes place on Wednesdays near the municipal market grounds. If you’re planning a visit, it’s worth checking the current date, as the weekly schedule may change.
The Mercat del Trasto is a market for second-hand items and furniture from private owners. It is scheduled for the second Sunday in May; the date may vary from year to year. The Aplec de Rocaprevera is another date to note in the events calendar: it is considered Torelló’s second local festival and takes place from Saturday to Monday on the third weekend in September. As the annual programme may change, check the dates for the relevant edition before travelling.
The 2025 edition of Carnaval de Terra Endins included a carnival parade and the Terra Endins music festival on Saturday, 1 March. This specific date refers to the 2025 edition.
Comparing two hiking trails
The PR C-45 Vall del Ges connects Torelló, Sant Vicenç de Torelló, and Sant Pere de Torelló. It starts and finishes at Plaça de la Sardana in Torelló, is 22.3 kilometres long, and has a stated duration of 5 hours and 35 minutes.
The PR C-47 Camí Vora-Ges follows the course of the Ges River between Torelló and Vidrà, passing Fontsanta and Forat Micó. Its starting point is in Torelló’s sports area, next to the confluence of the Ges and Ter. The Ges flows into the Ter in Torelló. The PR C-47 is listed as 18.10 kilometres long, with a duration of 3 hours and 50 minutes.
The figures make the difference between the two hikes clear: the PR C-47 is shorter and has a shorter stated duration; the PR C-45 explicitly connects three towns and returns to its starting point at Plaça de la Sardana. You can compare the available distance and time information to plan your trip. Conditions may change; the signage for the PR C-45 may also change. Check the latest information before setting out.
Planning your stay
Torelló railway station is a five-minute walk from the Museu de la Torneria. If you plan to travel by train, check the timetable separately. The Torelló motorhome area offers twelve parking spaces; this capacity may change.
