El Pont de Vilomara: Romanesque Architecture and Tines
Accommodation in El Pont de Vilomara
El Pont de Vilomara offers a clear focus for travellers who want to take historic buildings and cultural landscapes into account when choosing where to stay. Romanesque and pre-Romanesque architecture, the Pont Gòtic or Pont Vell, and the tines in the Vall del Flequer offer different points of interest: from dated building history and bridge construction to the rural heritage of winegrowing. This makes it possible to choose a place to stay based on specific themes rather than just a single excursion destination.
Churches, a bridge and architectural history
Santa Magdalena del Pla is a Romanesque church first mentioned in a document in 1077. This year anchors its history to a specific historical reference point. Together with the other buildings, it shows how different periods come together in the local cultural landscape.
The Pont Gòtic, also called the Pont Vell, was built in Roman times as a stone bridge on the site of an earlier wooden bridge. Both the material and the earlier crossing are therefore part of the history associated with this structure. Santa Maria de Matadars offers a different architectural perspective: it preserves significant remains of pre-Romanesque Catalan architecture, without later alterations. The church is designated a Cultural Asset of National Interest.
The Museu de Rocafort also has its own clearly dated history: it opened on 15 August 1986 and was substantially expanded in 1996. Anyone wishing to place different periods in context can compare this institutional development with the older churches and the bridge. These dates describe the history of the museum; in themselves, they say nothing about current visiting opportunities.
Tines and cultural landscape in the Vall del Flequer
The L’Escudelleta group in the Vall del Flequer comprises eleven tines, seven shelters and a wine press. These numbers bring the variety of surviving structures into focus without reducing them to a single building. The tines in the Vall del Flequer are considered valuable rural heritage and an exceptional legacy from the wine boom in Bages.
The dry-stone tines in el Pont de Vilomara i Rocafort are scattered across the north-western slope of the Parc Natural de Sant Llorenç del Munt i l’Obac and its surrounding area. The SL-C 52 Les tines de la vall del Flequer runs mainly along forest tracks and paths. Dry-stone walls, wine-growing storage buildings and the natural surroundings shape this route. This means that the route focuses not only on individual buildings, but also on the landscape features that make up the context of the rural heritage.
The tines extend beyond a single group: in total, thirteen groups in Talamanca, Mura and el Pont de Vilomara i Rocafort are designated Cultural Assets of National Interest. Most are located in the Parc Natural de Sant Llorenç del Munt i l’Obac. This regional perspective helps visitors understand the tines both as local cultural heritage and as part of a larger collection spanning several municipalities.
Guided walks and wine tasting
Guided walks are organised from the Centre d’Informació de Rocafort on weekends to discover Castell de Rocafort. If you would like to include this option in your plans, check the current dates in advance. This lets you coordinate your visit with a suitable time slot without assuming a particular itinerary.
Another option related to wine culture is the Les tines amb tast de vins de la DO Pla de Bages route. The Parc Natural’s calendar lists, for the period from 1 January to 31 December 2026, a tasting of two DO Pla de Bages wines accompanied by a small bite made from local products. Check the current booking details before taking part. The combination of a tasting and a small bite sets this activity apart from the historic buildings and walks.
Plan your journey and stay
The Sagalés line 782 connects Manresa, el Pont de Vilomara and Sant Vicenç de Castellet. As timetables and service conditions can change, check the timetable before travelling. The themes described offer different guidance when choosing where to stay: the churches and bridge represent architectural history, the tines rural heritage, and the guided walks focus on Castell de Rocafort. This lets you plan your stay around the aspects that matter to your trip.
