El Pobo De Dueñas: Fortress, Parish Church and Parameras
Accommodation in El Pobo De Dueñas
El Pobo De Dueñas is shaped by its medieval military history and sacred architecture, as well as by its open landscape.
Fortress and ecclesiastical heritage
The Castillo del Pobo de Dueñas is a medieval fortress within the defensive system of the Señorío de Molina. In addition to the fortress, remains of the old town walls have been preserved, revealing two scales of defensive history: the regional system and the fortifications of the town itself. Remains of a defensive tower can also be found at the Torre de la Herreruela in the La Herreruela area. It probably belonged to a defensive belt between the territories ruled by Castile and Aragon.
The parish church of San Juan Bautista is part of the monumental heritage of El Pobo De Dueñas. The present-day parish church was built in the 16th century and extensively remodeled in the 17th and 20th centuries. Its distinctive portal features an arch and archivolts. These elements framing the arch are decorated with balls and rosettes. Inside is a polychrome reclining sculpture of Don García Gil Manrique. The church thus reveals several building phases and specific details on both the portal and the interior.
Museum and fossils
The Museo Etnológico de El Pobo De Dueñas is a small museum in the lower rooms of the town hall. A description of the collection published in 2018 lists about 200 objects. These include agricultural equipment, utensils and machinery, as well as tools used in traditional trades. Weights and measures complement these work tools; household objects and clothing represent other areas of the collection. Old photographs show the town and its residents. Visitors can see fossils in a small paleontological section. Individual displays and access arrangements may have changed since the collection was described; check current access arrangements before visiting.
The area around El Pobo De Dueñas is also known for fossilized colonial organisms called graptolites.
Landscape and routes
El Pobo De Dueñas lies at a natural transition between Molina de Aragón and the Jiloca Depression. The landscape around the town is characterized by expansive Parameras and open fields. Traditional routes make it possible to hike through a steppe landscape. The Camino del Cid passes through El Pobo De Dueñas; Las Tres Taifas is designated as a cycling route there. Activities vary by mode of travel: the traditional routes are for hiking, while Las Tres Taifas is a designated cycling route.

When planning your trip, architectural landmarks and the museum collection can offer a different focus from the Parameras and outdoor activities.
