Caudete can be explored from different perspectives: architecture, festival theatre and collections sit alongside natural attractions and outdoor activities. When planning your trip, it is worth deciding first whether you want to focus on culture, landscapes or a combination of both. The places and themes below will help you make that choice.

Architecture and festival traditions

The parish church of Santa Catalina is the oldest church in Caudete. It brings together Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles. This combination makes it particularly interesting for travellers who want to see not just one period, but several architectural styles in a single building. Another clear point of comparison is the Santuario de Nuestra Señora de Gracia de Caudete: the building is Baroque and dates from the 18th century. While Santa Catalina combines different styles, the Santuario can be assigned to a single period. Together, these two religious buildings offer a tangible introduction to Caudete’s architecture.

The Episodios Caudetanos are also part of the town’s cultural heritage. This three-part verse drama is considered a living example of 17th-century festive religious theatre and is recognised as a Bien de Interés Cultural in the category of intangible cultural heritage. Its form, historical connection and official recognition give the play a character distinct from that of the churches and collections: here, a theatrical tradition takes centre stage.

The Moros y Cristianos festivals in Caudete are more than 400 years old and are recognised as a festival of regional tourist interest. If you want to plan your trip around the festivities, check the dates before making your plans.

Museums and collections

Opened in 2025, the Ethnographic Museum in the Molino de Abajo displays almost 300 exhibits donated by private individuals. The most significant item in the collection at the Centro de Interpretación del Patrimonio Cultural de Caudete is the Pilar Estela. It was part of an Iberian funerary monument from the 4th century BC.

Those with a particular interest in painting will find 75 watercolours at the Museo de la Acuarela “Rafael Requena”; landscapes are their main subject. The works on display may change. Another way to explore local culture is the Museo Sala de Mantos de Ntra. Sra. de Gracia, which can be visited on a guided tour by prior arrangement with the tourist office or the Santuario. As arrangements may change, confirm your appointment before visiting.

Nature and outdoor activities

The La Toconera nature area offers flat walking and cycling routes suitable for all ages. This lets you choose between exploring on foot or by bike. Check local restrictions and trail conditions before your visit. Another natural landmark is Piedra Agujereada: this limestone formation, located at an altitude of 722 metres, was shaped by wind and water. It is easy to access and offers panoramic views over La Toconera.

There are around 300 climbing routes in 20 different sectors on the southern flank of the Sierra Oliva. Access information and route details are maintained by the Centro Excursionista de Caudete; if climbing is part of your plans, consult the information they provide.
