When looking for hotels in Mogro, you can plan your stay around the beach, outdoor activities or culture. Playa de Usil, the circular route to the Ermita de la Virgen del Monte and the history of the Church of San Martín offer clearly distinct focal points. Which one matters most depends on how you would like to spend your time in the area.

Playa de Usil and the coast

Playa de Usil is located at the mouth of the natural Ría del Pas. Mogro beach is unspoiled and has small dunes; Playa de Usil is 250 m long and 15 m wide. Thanks to its facilities and low level of danger, Playa de Usil is considered particularly suitable for families with children. There are playgrounds and walking areas nearby. If particular facilities are important for your visit, check their current condition in advance, as some amenities may change.

Circular route to the Ermita de la Virgen del Monte

The circular route from Mogro to the Ermita de la Virgen del Monte is of moderate difficulty, 5.01 km long and takes about 26 minutes. It begins next to the Church of San Martín Obispo in Mogro. Along Calle San Martín, it follows the Camino Histórico del Norte to the CA-322; the route then continues along the road to the ermita. From there, it heads north on the CA-232 back to Mogro, the starting point. Trail conditions and signage may change. Check them before setting out if you plan to follow the route.

Church, shrine and history

The Church of San Martín in Mogro is the oldest surviving building in the municipality. The current building may date from the late 15th or early 16th century. The church has an attached tower house, which may have existed before it was used as a bell tower and may have served as a residence.

The Ermita de la Virgen del Monte became the most important shrine of the Honor. Families of sailors and fishermen often visited the shrine; numerous objects connected with the sea bear witness to this historic link. Thus, in Mogro, both the church’s possible construction history and the religious significance and maritime heritage of the ermita represent different aspects of local heritage.

Events and natural surroundings in the wider area
