San Andres combines a distinctive beach with a history shaped by fishing and the Torre de San Andrés. You can consider which of these aspects are of particular interest during your stay.

Playa de Las Teresitas

Playa de Las Teresitas is a beach with golden sand, lined with numerous palm trees, in the town of San Andrés. You can reach it on foot, by car, or by boat. The beach has showers, surveillance, and access for people with disabilities. If these points are important for your plans, check the current conditions before your visit.

The Torre de San Andrés: Construction History and Monument

The history of the Torre de San Andrés dates back to a building commission in 1706. The Captain General, Agustín de Robles y Lorenzana, instructed the engineer S. M. Miguel Tiburcio Russell de Lugo to build a round tower with a loophole and ashlar stones in the small bay formed by the Cercado and Huertas ravines. A diameter of 16 meters and a height of 5 meters were planned. The planned diameter was therefore considerably greater than the intended height. Another flood on October 28, 1898, completed the collapse of the Torre; it has remained in its current state ever since. By decree of April 22, 1949, the tower was declared a historic-artistic monument. A decree of November 19, 1999, defined its boundaries as a Bien de Interés Cultural (BIC).

Festivals and Fishing Culture

The annual Fiestas de San Andrés and Santa Lucía are patron saint festivals in honor of both saints. They bring together religious devotion, music, folk culture, and local traditions, and attract hundreds of people. The festivals of the Virgen del Carmen in San Andrés and Igueste de San Andrés are also among the particularly significant expressions of intangible cultural heritage in the Anaga area. The “Remendar nuestra red” tradition honors the work of women fishers and the fishing customs that have shaped San Andrés’ identity.
