Las Cruces is a district of Garachico. The local features offer a practical framework for choosing a hotel in Las Cruces: heritage, protected landscapes, and different route options. The TF-421 runs from San Juan del Reparo to Las Cruces and in the opposite direction, too. This road connection and the themes you want to shape your stay around—such as hiking, a bike ride, or a visit to the Calvario—can help you get your bearings.

Heritage and Carnival

The Calvario de Las Cruces is classified in the NNSS catalogue as a “Lugar Singular” (No. 27). Access is via a stone staircase. As conditions on site may change, check the condition of the access before your visit.

At the Hacienda de La Quinta Roja, the boundaries of the area are another detail to note: the protected area is bounded to the south by the road between San Pedro de Daute and Las Cruces.

During Garachico’s traditional Carnival, Sansusino is laid in state and burned in Barrio Las Cruces; the “remamas o letanías” are also part of the celebration. If you want to experience this custom, plan around the specific event dates.

Hiking Trails and Road Routes

Stage 5 reaches Las Cruces and then descends along the TF-421 toward San Pedro. From San Pedro, the stage continues downhill on a steady gradient with tight bends. The descent offers views of Playa de Garachico. Along one section of the TF-421, there is neither a hard shoulder nor a sidewalk for several metres. If you are walking there, check the road conditions in advance.

The Ruta de las Haciendas de Daute crosses the Las Cruces district and passes close to the Hacienda El Carmen. The Los Silos–Garachico hiking trail reaches Las Cruces in its final section, which is paved and has only a slight incline. This provides different details to consider when planning: the road descent with tight bends on Stage 5, the proximity to the Hacienda El Carmen on the Ruta de las Haciendas, and the surface and incline of the final section on the Los Silos–Garachico trail.

Landscape and Cycling

To the east, the Sitio de Interés Científico de Interián is bounded by the Las Cruces district in Garachico. A road descends from Tierra del Trigo along the steep slope to near Las Cruces. A road toward Las Cruces also crosses a protected area containing the finest stands of almácigos, palms, and barbusanos in the entire protected zone.

The cycling climb at Las Cruces has gradients of 5.6 percent, with only a few metres of respite. The route is winding and offers continuous sea views. As you make your way to the summit, the landscape becomes increasingly lush. These are the defining features of this cycling section: gradient, bends, views, and changing vegetation.
