If you are considering Guamansa as a destination for a hotel stay, its rural history, trails and local traditions can help you get your bearings. The following points of interest range from self-guided routes and the Santa Rosa Church to festivals throughout the year. When choosing your destination, you can weigh up whether you want to focus mainly on tours, cultural history or specific festival dates.

Rural history and agriculture

Guamasa is considered part of the rural history of San Cristóbal de La Laguna. Agricultural and livestock-raising traditions have shaped the area since pre-Hispanic times. Local agricultural products include wheat, lupins, fruit trees, potatoes and vegetables. Its long-standing agricultural heritage and specific produce offer two ways of seeing the same rural character: historical depth on the one hand and the diversity of cultivation on the other.

Self-guided routes and trails

La Laguna Ecotours is a collection of self-guided routes, including a route guide for El Ortigal–Guamasa. This route is 5.92 kilometres long and suitable for bicycles. Caution is advised in areas with heavy traffic. The route length and mode of transport offer practical guidance for planning your tour; the traffic warning is directly relevant when choosing to cycle.

Paseo de Las Acacias is a notable place in Guamasa near Bajada del Boquerón. It is a paved footpath that runs alongside road traffic for much of its length. The surface and traffic arrangements may change, so check conditions before your visit. This path is defined not only by its paved surface, but also by its interaction with road traffic.

Santa Rosa de Lima Church

The former chapel of Santa Rosa de Lima was funded by local residents and still stands today. In 1929, the Diocese of Nivariense elevated it to parish church status. The Church of Santa Rosa de Lima in Guamasa is dedicated to the first woman born on the American continent to be beatified. The present church has a striking Neo-Gothic design and is the work of Mariano Estanga. Taken together, its dedication, local funding, ecclesiastical status and architecture offer different points of connection with the area’s history.

Traditions and festival dates

The Canarian folk sport “La Lucha Canaria” has a tradition in the Guamasa area that spans almost seven decades. The Romerías also offer different points of reference in time and culture: a Romería in honour of San Isidro Labrador is held in Guamasa in June, when thanks are given for the harvest. A Romería in honour of Santa Rosa de Lima takes place in September. The main day of the celebrations in her honour is 30 August. The occasions therefore differ: the June event focuses on giving thanks for the harvest, while the September Romería is dedicated to Santa Rosa de Lima.
