Discover Haria: Crafts, Culture and Hiking Trails
Accommodation in Haria
If you are looking for a hotel for your stay in Haria, the local highlights can help guide your travel plans: the main attractions include a house museum, religious art, a weekly craft market and routes through the landscapes of northeastern Lanzarote. You can shape your stay around the interests that bring you to Haria in particular.
Art and History in Haría
The César Manrique House Museum is located in a palm grove in the village of Haría. The house museum opened to the public in 2013. Visitors can explore the rooms and studio where the painter lived and worked during the final years of his life. The visit thus takes you through Manrique’s living and working spaces.
Religious art is also part of the town’s history. The Museo de Arte Sacro Popular de Haría preserves religious images from the former Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación de Haría. The church is known for its history and religious artworks, including images, religious paintings, monstrances and chalices. Museum opening arrangements may change, so check before visiting.
Crafts and Local Produce
Haría Artesanal takes place every Saturday from 10:00 to 14:30 in the Plaza de Haría. Check the hours before you arrive. The market showcases crafts made from pírgano, palm fibres and palmito. These include basketry, rosetas, embroidery, dolls and ceramics. The selection also includes local cheeses, fruit, organically grown vegetables and pastries. The market brings together handmade goods and food products from local producers.
The variety of materials and forms gives the visit a distinct cultural focus: basketry is displayed alongside embroidery, dolls and ceramics. If you are interested in particular craft traditions, you can explore the variety on offer at the market; cheese, fruit, vegetables and pastries are also among the products sold there.
Hiking Routes and Views
A description of the Haría municipality’s hiking network published in 2021 lists up to 27 different routes across the categories of hiking, trail running and mountain biking. The municipal website provides distances and estimated durations for individual routes. As the status of individual routes and the information about them may change, check local information and conditions before setting out.
Two described routes offer a way to compare the landscapes: the Haría–Máguez hiking trail connects the two villages via Volcán de la Atalaya; from the summit of Atalaya, the view extends across northeastern Lanzarote. The Haría–Bosquecillo route offers views of the Chinijo Archipelago, the Valley of Haría and the northeastern coast. The destinations therefore differ: one route focuses on the view from the summit, while the other takes in a succession of different landscapes. Check trail conditions locally.
San Juan Celebrations
The programme for the 2026 San Juan celebrations included religious and cultural events. The celebrations concluded on 24 June with a mass in honour of San Juan Bautista at the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de La Encarnación, followed by a procession through Haría. The programme also included the Festival Folclórico Malpaís de la Corona and the 30th Romería in honour of San Juan Bautista.
The Noche del Fuego was also part of the programme, featuring the Quema de Facundo and the Danza del Fuego; a fireworks display and a public dance event were also scheduled. These details refer to the 2026 programme and are not an announcement of future dates. If you want to plan your trip around events, check the dates for the relevant year.
