The Cueva Refugio en Mesa del Hornillo, the Fest del Aparcero and a circular route offer different ways to explore Aldea Blanca: traditional shepherding, festival culture and a specific route option. A leisure and sports area was included in the 2015 plans, with spaces for ball games, picnics and exercise. You can decide which of these interests should shape your trip based on whether you are looking for history, event dates or a particular activity.

Cave Refuge and Shepherding Traditions

The Cueva Refugio en Mesa del Hornillo in Aldea Blanca is classified as an ethnographic complex of the cave-refuge type. According to tradition, it was historically inhabited by shepherds from Fataga who practised transhumance. The term refers to the seasonal movement between grazing areas, linking the cave to the work and movements of the shepherds. For travellers interested in local history, both the cave refuge and its traditional former use are central. If you wish to visit the site, check accessibility in advance.

Festival and Circular Route

A description from 2016 refers to the Fest del Aparcero as a folk festival in Aldea Blanca. If you wish to plan your stay around it, check the current event dates in advance.

The Circular Aldea Blanca–El Sitio de Abajo–La Sorrueda–Aldea Blanca route starts and ends at the corner of Atacayte and Valsendero streets. This named street corner gives you a specific landmark to help you prepare. Check the route conditions locally before setting out. This allows you to plan the circular route as a standalone activity, while the festival makes the right travel dates the main consideration.

Planned Leisure and Sports Areas

The 2015 plans for the leisure and sports area included a 530 m² multipurpose court with stands. It was intended for handball, basketball and futsal. These are three specific ball sports that shaped the court in the plans at the time.

In addition, a picnic area of just under 200 m² was planned, with five tables and ten prefabricated benches for around 50 people. A separate 110 m² health-oriented exercise area was to include equipment for adults. Planned activities included stretching as well as exercises for the abdomen, back, lower back, arms and other muscles.

The areas have different intended purposes: the multipurpose court was designed for ball games, the picnic area for a shared break and the exercise area for physical activity. If you wish to include any of these facilities in your travel plans, check their current condition and whether they are open to the public in advance.
