Larrabetzu: The Way of St. James and Historic Buildings

Larrabetzu combines a historic town centre with routes through river and valley landscapes. Churches, Palaces and Local History

The present-day Church of Saints Emeterius and Celedonius in Larrabetzu was built around 1500 in the Late Gothic style. Above the entrance to Oloste Palace is an 18th-century Rococo coat of arms. A total of five reliefs depicting busts crown and flank the coat of arms. Ikaza Palace dates from the 15th century. The San Salvador Hermitage is located in a rural settlement with scattered farmhouses. Its present form has been extensively altered; its origins date back at least to the 11th century. The building thus combines a long history with a markedly changed present-day form.

Walks and Routes Through the Landscape

The walk through the historic centre is a linear route of around 1.5 to 2 kilometres, from the Church of Santa María de la Asunción to Anguleri Palace. It follows the Zugaztierrekea River on a steady, gentle climb into the Ugalde Valley. If you are choosing between the two routes, their layout is a clear point of difference: the town-centre walk is linear and around 1.5 to 2 kilometres long, while the TXO01 follows the river steadily uphill into the valley.

Txakoli and San Isidro

Gorka Izagirre is a family-run winery among the vineyards in Larrabetzu, located within the Azurmendi gastronomic complex. Alongside the restaurant, the complex includes a 2,500-square-metre winery.
