Santa Agnès De Corona: Karst Landscape and Festive Programme
Accommodation in Santa Agnès De Corona
Santa Agnès De Corona combines a distinctive geological feature with a festive programme scheduled for specific dates. Pla de Corona is a poljé, a large karst depression with an irregular outline and a flat floor. In addition, the Festes Patronals and the Festa a sa Sitja de sa Rota d’en Coca offer insight into events that were planned for 2026. Two different questions are therefore relevant when planning your trip: are you mainly interested in the landscape, or would you like to plan your stay around a particular festival date?
Pla de Corona as a karst landscape
The karst formation can also be understood in terms of its water system. Pla de Corona is a closed basin: it collects water and sediment from the streams in the surrounding hills and has no connection to the sea. Its flat floor and irregular outline are therefore features of a landscape that also serves as a catchment basin. The geological classification links the form of the poljé with its hydrological role.
The significance of Pla de Corona is also presented in comparative terms: alongside the poljé of Sant Mateu d'Albarca, it is considered one of the two most significant examples of this karst formation. The comparison refers to two named poljés and provides a frame of reference for understanding the geological distinction of Pla de Corona.
Festive programme and culinary events
The programme for the Festes Patronals de Santa Agnès de Corona 2026 ran from 19 January to 1 March. For the feast day of Saint Agnès, a solemn mass, a procession, a parade of traditional carts, and a ballada pagesa with bunyols and local wine were planned. Religious celebration, procession, and regional food and drink were thus all part of the programme. It also included a course on preparing sofrit pagès and the VI Concurs de sofrit pagès Festes de Corona. The two formats have different emphases: the course focuses on preparation, while the Concurs is described as a competition.
Other events each had a clear focus. On 30 January, the night walk “Anem de lluna i mirem-nos sa flor” from Sant Antoni towards Corona was planned; buses were arranged for the return journey. The XII Cursa popular Flor d’Ametller was scheduled to take place on 8 February. A visual concert in the Ones de Llum series was planned for 28 February in the church of Santa Agnès.
Crafts, tasting, and when to visit
Demonstrations of traditional crafts were planned for the Festa a sa Sitja de sa Rota d’en Coca from 20 to 22 February 2026. A tasting of coquetes amb sobrassada was also to take place throughout the weekend. A day devoted to restoring dry-stone walls was scheduled for 21 February. The tasting ran throughout the weekend, while the restoration activity was assigned to a single date—a useful distinction if you have a particular event in mind.
The events mentioned belong to the 2026 programme. If a festival is to determine when you travel, check the announcement for the relevant year. This keeps the enduring description of the landscape and the time-specific festival dates as two clearly distinct aspects of the destination.
