A visit to Pintano can begin with its historic setting: the medieval settlement sits on a hill, and the wayside cross offers sweeping views. The village also has cultural sites, while the municipality of Los Pintanos offers opportunities to explore nature and go hiking. You can plan your stay around cultural history and outdoor activities as distinct themes.

Culture and History in Pintano

The Iglesia Nuestra Señora de la Purificación is designated a Bien de Interés Cultural. The Gothic building was constructed at the end of the 15th century. This makes the church one of the village’s clearly dated buildings: its style and period of construction give your visit a specific historical context.

The Ermita de San Antón is located in the centre of Pintano. It houses the Centro de Interpretación de Arqueología del Valle de Pintanos. Access to the centre is through the Hostal Villa de Pintano; visits are free of charge. As access arrangements may change, check the details before your visit.

Casa Pelegrín is also one of the notable stately buildings in the village centre. The name “Castillo Real” is part of the history of Pintano’s fortress: a king found shelter there on the evening of the second day, after which the fortress acquired this historic name. The story links the name to a specific event, without requiring any further context.

A Celtiberian necropolis dating to the 6th century BC was excavated near Pintano. It adds a much earlier archaeological period to the village’s medieval history. The church, hermitage, stately building, fortress and necropolis represent different aspects of local history.

Hiking, Mountain Biking and Nature

There are signposted hiking trails in the municipality of Los Pintanos. Excursions are also available from Pintano. Alongside the cultural sites, you can therefore enjoy activities in the municipality; the hiking trails and excursions are not necessarily one and the same route.

The Sigüés–Pintano mountain biking route is 37.88 kilometres long and passes through the areas of Rienda, Ruesta and Pintano. A section between Pintano and the Portillo cannot be ridden because of its steep gradient and poor condition. Check trail conditions before setting out, as they may change. One mountain biking route crosses the Sierra and then descends to Pintano on a very gravelly track.

The birdlife is another connection to nature: Los Pintanos is home to a rich variety of bird species thanks to the diversity of the surrounding ecosystems. Sightings may vary by season. If birds are a particular interest, take this seasonal variation into account when planning your visit; specific sightings are not guaranteed.

Mycology days are held in Los Pintanos in October or November. If you would like to plan your trip around the event, check the exact dates in advance. The historic sites in Pintano, activities in the municipality and this seasonal event can all be considered as distinct elements of your stay.
