Abizanda offers a range of cultural and scenic highlights: its five-story tower, a museum dedicated to magic, superstition and folk religion, Casa de los TĂteres, and the RomerĂa de los langostos. These attractions offer different perspectives, from architecture and exhibitions to theater, views and a religious tradition. If you are looking for a hotel in Abizanda, you can first consider which of these themes best suits your reason for traveling.

Torre de Abizanda and Museum

Torre de Abizanda is about 24 meters tall and has five stories. It currently houses the temporary exhibitions of the Museo de Creencias y Religiosidad Popular del Pirineo Central. The museum explores the complex world of magic and superstition and their unique connection with Christian teachings in this part of the Pyrenees. This connection gives the museum a distinctive thematic focus: beliefs are presented in their regional context rather than in isolation.

The museum’s permanent exhibition is divided into three sections: protection of the home, protection of the individual, and the beliefs of the community. The structure shifts in scale from the domestic setting to the individual and then to the community, making the organization of the themes easy to follow. This makes it possible to distinguish between the permanent exhibition’s structured sections and the temporary exhibitions currently housed in the tower as two different forms of presentation.

Casa de los TĂteres: Theater and Views

Casa de los TĂteres has a permanent theater with a capacity of about 100 people. In summer, the complex hosts outdoor performances on its Era. This means there is both a permanent theater hall with an approximate stated capacity and a seasonal outdoor format. The Era is also a venue for theatrical performances in the heart of nature and a viewpoint. From there, you can see the Central Pyrenees and the comarcas of Sobrarbe, Ribagorza and Somontano. If you would like to include a summer performance in your trip, check the specific event date in advance.

Puppets from Different Countries

The Títeres exhibition at Casa de los Títeres features puppets from countries including India, China, Tunisia, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Mexico, Colombia, the United Kingdom, the United States, Italy and Spain. This complements the focus on theatrical performances with a second perspective on puppet theater: the puppets and the countries they are said to come from. This approach differs from the museum’s regional focus on magic, superstition and Christian teachings.

RomerĂa de los langostos

Abizanda’s Romería de los langostos honors San Victorián and is held on the Sunday closest to January 12. Near the Ermita de San Victorián, located in the Sierra de Arbe, participants spread out white cloths. They place Tortas de caridad on them in several piles, along with jugs of wine. The occasion, location and proceedings give the tradition its distinct character. If you would like to include the Romería in your travel dates, check which Sunday it falls on in the relevant year.
